Here’s the rest of the (long) thread that I cut off for readability, but it’s also pretty funny:

      Well this is spectacular!

I always just assumed the “crazy shit for everyone” theory was the case, they just didn’t have the scientific understanding to describe it. 100 years later those crazy descriptions had been analyzed to death.

But I love the Continuing Crazy Adventures of Captain Kirk theory. That one sounds like it is way more fun. Star Fleet is reading these logs and just trying to figure out what to do with Kirk.

I love it. Like they all know him as this overzealous explorer-type with a flair for the dramatic, but he’s bored as hell staring at empty space all day.

Lower Decks basically confirms that everyone is encountering crazy stuff all the time though.

I really like how Lower Decks goes with that last comment and say “yeah, somebody has to shoo those sharks away when the other ones are busy; this are their voyagers”.

If you think of what Data says as the output from an LLM, this tracks. It’s even funnier if you accept that everyone knows and understands that data hallucinates his knowledge sometimes, but he still proves to generally be a good officer.

I’m sure this has other lore implications that invalidate it.

I hate that I can hear Lore saying “…because of the implication.”

Data: What do we need a mattress for?

Lore: What do you mean what do we need a mattress for? Why in the hell do you think we just spent all that money on a ship? The whole purpose of buying the ship in the first place was to get the ladies nice and tipsy topside so we can take 'em to a nice comfortable place below deck and, you know, they can’t refuse, because of the implication.

Data: Oh, uh… okay. You had me going there for the first part, the second half kinda threw me.

Lore: Well dude, dude, think about it: she’s out in the middle of nowhere with some dude she barely knows. You know, she looks around and what does she see? Nothin’ but open space. “Ahh, there’s nowhere for me to run. What am I gonna do, say ‘no’?”

Data: Okay. That… that seems really dark.

Lore: Nah, no it’s not dark. You’re misunderstanding me, bro.

            Data: I’m-I think I am.

Lore: Yeah, you are, because if the girl said “no” then the answer obviously is “no”…

            Data: No, right.

Lore: But the thing is she’s not gonna say “no”, she would never say “no” because of the implication.

Data: …Now you’ve said that word “implication” a couple of times. Wha-what implication?

Lore: The implication that things might go wrong for her if she refuses to sleep with me. Now, not that things are gonna go wrong for her but she’s thinkin’ that they will.

Data: But it sounds like she doesn’t wanna have sex with you…

Lore: Why aren’t you understanding this? She-she doesn’t know if she wants to have sex with me. That’s not the issue…

Data: Are you gonna hurt these women?

Lore: I’m not gonna hurt these women! Why would I ever hurt these women? I feel like you’re not getting this at all!

            Data: I’m not getting it.

            Lore: Goddamn.

            [notices woman staring at them]

Lore: Well don’t you look at me like that, you certainly wouldn’t be in any danger.

Data: So they are in danger!

Lore: No one’s in any danger!

What if it’s a portal between the two points in time and space and the crew are really staring at each other thru the portal?

You have an ops room? Well, now you have to violate opsec and tell us more.

Just a water treatment plant. Nothing too exciting, but this is very applicable since we have an ops log which everybody is supposed to utilize so the incoming shift knows what’s going on but it’s maybe used 50% as often as it should be.

Hey, that’s exciting! Without you guys, the water would taste like shit. Like it probably does on Voyager.
