How much would it cost to put someone to sleep on a submersible not rated for immediate-pink-mist depths?

I mean, if you’re going down that route, you can just tie concrete blocks to someone and shove them into the water. It’s cheap and tested thoroughly by the mafia

I believe the point of OP’s “thought” Is that death-by-implosion is basically instant (30 milliseconds) so it could be considered more humane than other methods.

They’d have to descend in it for hours wondering when it would blow. That wouldn’t be humane at all - it’s like standing in front of a firing squad for 1-2 hours wondering when they’re going to shoot.

Yeah, all in all this is sounding more like a torture method than anything

Fairly expensive, as you’d need a new disposable submarine for each execution.

Most execution is actually pretty barbaric. The multi drug cocktail used for executions in the US is a horrible system that was designed by a non-doctor. The first drug knocks you out, the second drug paralyzes you, and the 3rd drug stops your heart. Problem is if they don’t give you enough of the first drug, you can be awake while your heart is being stopped which is apparently quite painful, but since you’re immobilized you can’t communicate that at all.

The only humane way I am aware of to kill a condemned person would be have them breathe pure nitrogen. Nitrogen is all around us- the air we breathe is 80% nitrogen so the body doesn’t react negatively to it. But without that 20% oxygen, the brain asphyxiates and dies in just a few minutes. The prisoner would simply pass out and not wake up.
This protocol is often used to euthanize laboratory animals as it is considered among the most humane.
It’s pretty fucked up that lab rats get a better death than humans.

I’ll be honest, i never thought about HOW death sentences are executed, mostly because i live in a country where death sentences are seen as barbaric and are not possible thankfully. But now that i think about it, a “mutli-drug cocktail” sounds like one of the worst ideas, next hanging and guillotine.

Well the whole execution thing IS pretty barbaric. In the US it costs more to execute someone than jail them for life. And we’ve been fucking around for some time debating what is a humane death and what isn’t, while a lot of the pro-execution people really sound like they WANT someone to suffer.

Electric chair for example basically boils a person alive; and the cyanide used in a gas chamber is also quite a painful death. Firing squad CAN be fairly quick, but one wonders why is the person shot in the heart rather than in the head that would cause instant painless death? Hanging, when done correctly, is fairly instant and painless. When done incorrectly it leaves a person suffocating to death while hanging on a rope, which is a very painful death. Guillotine, like hanging, is fairly painless when it’s done correctly, however the concept is quite barbaric. And there’s some suggestion that the human head remains conscious for several seconds after execution-- I read something a while back of a scientist who was sentenced to death by guillotine, he told his assistant he’d keep blinking as long as he could, the assistant recorded 10 or 12 blinks.

Wherever you are from I think has the right idea. Executing people causes more problems than it solves, and creates huge possibility of suffering. I believe there are some people in the world who do deserve to die, but I don’t think it should be up to me (or any human or group of humans) to make that determination. We just make too many mistakes.

Being drawn and quartered or golden bulled sounds like one of the worse ideas.

Hanging, rifle line, and the guillotine are slightly better as they’re less violent and more ‘matter of fact’.

A multi-drug cocktail sounds like one of the most humane methods, medicinally and painlessly ending a life. Sadly they’ve fucked up even that by not doing it properly.

The problem is you can’t get any actual doctors to help make it medically sound on account of that whole “do no harm” thing they’re supposed to uphold, so you end up with quacks that use a functionally random set of drugs that make it appear to the crowd as a painless way to die when in actuality its one of the most brutally painful possible ways to die.

Death can be a freedom from harm, ex. Euthanasia.

So if they were going to die anyway, a doctor could rationalise it as helping them have the least suffering.

Multi drug cocktail SOUNDS human but it introduces too much room for error.

If you must use a drug, use a single massive dose of barbiturate (sedative and sleep inducing drug) such as pentobarbital. That’s both a sedative and central nervous system depressant, so it puts you to sleep then stops your heart and breathing. There’s no chance to fuck it up- if you give too little of it the person doesn’t die and instead eventually wakes up. If you give too much of it they die more quickly. So the easy answer is just figure out what the lethal dose is and give the person 10x that much.

Such a protocol is often used to euthanize sick pets, and it’s sometimes used for medically assisted suicide.
Once again, fucked up that dogs and cats get a better death than humans.

Yeah sure there are worse ideas, i just put the drug cocktail on the same level.

I don’t think there is any humane method anyway and i think we should not even consider anything less than that. But that’s not how it works in reality sadly.

The issue with things like hanging is that there’s more room for political abuse because it’s so theatrical. Even if a lethal injection took place in a town square, it would have nowhere near the same capacity for terrorism and suppressing dissent.

Also nitrogen is stupid cheap. Like 35 cents/pound and it’d probably take less than a pound.

      I like the nitrogen idea.

Frankly, lethal injection is soooo messed up, that had I been on death row in Utah (when I lived there), I would have selected the freaking firing squad option (yes, it’s legal).

I’d like a reinforced cell with an explosive charge under my bed. When my execution date comes, the charge is detonated. The explosion is so fast and violent that my brain ceases to be before the pain signal from my nerves even reaches it. I would never even be aware that my date had come.

Sounds messy. That turns you into human salsa, including the shit in your guts. So you’ll be spending your last days in a room that reeks of the last guy’s splattered poo on the walls.

If it’s built to fail, there’s a very high chance of something going wrong before it’s supposed to. If you want painless executions, you do it with inert gasses.

I mean, you can get the same effect with some sleeping pills, a laundry basin, and some quick-set concrete. Why even bother with the submersible?

That would be an excessive amount of garbage introduced to the ocean for only five executives executions at a time.
