Is this a normal way for a cat to sleep? He is a rescue and I’m pretty sure his hips were injured at some point, so I always thought that this was related. But we’ve just gotten a kitten who started doing it too.

    I don’t think there’s a position cats don’t sleep/lie/sit in.

       Cats sleep, anywhere,
       Any table, any chair
       Top of piano, window-ledge,
In the middle, on the edge,
       Open drawer, empty shoe,
       Anybody's lap will do,
       Fitted in a cardboard box,
In the cupboard, with your frocks-
       Anywhere! They don't care!
       Cats sleep anywhere.

My wife thought this was our cat and when I said it was a post she tried to show me where in our house I took it.

So I guess what I’m saying is yes, my cat does this

Yes and whenever he does it I can never stop myself from calling him a “fat snake”

Yes that is normal cat behavior. They sleep in all positions

We have a ginger that looks practically identical and he lays like this often. He likes to stretch those back leggies out.

This would be akin to you sticking a leg out of the covers for that cool air.

My cat likes to let his leg hang off in the distance. We call it the “chicken leg”

    Yep.

Definitely no injuries sustained in his life. Just a regular 'ol weirdo.

Totally normal. Sometimes you just want to curl up but still stretch out your legs!
