“We’re making propaganda for fun. Join us, it’s comfy,” the 4chan thread instructs. “MAKE, EDIT, SHARE.”

It’s just some random fun, guys; it’s not at all a coordinated campaign by white supremacist fascists to inundate people with racist and fascist propaganda.

No, it’s the next insidious plot of the notorious hacker known as 4chan.

      We’re making propaganda… Join us… the 4chan thread instructs

      So the campaign is coordinated

      4chan

The visual guide instructs potential posters to create images that are “Funny, provocative. Redpilling message (Jews involved in 9/11). Easy to Understand.” Under an image that shows a crying Pepe the frog with a needle next to its arm and a gun pointed to his head, the guide says “vaccines enforced by violence.” Under an AI-generated image of two Black men with gold chains chasing a white woman, the guide said “redpilling message (migrant crime in scandinavia).”

      So they’re white supremacist fascists

      MAKE, EDIT, SHARE

So they are inundating people with it

whether you think it’s random fun or not is subjective, but the way they’ve described it is accurate.

Sounds like some people still need to learn about the goat fucker corollary: if you fuck a goat as a joke, you’re a goat fucker. There’s no “irony” or “just trolling” exception.

Even during those times and before they were doing butt sharpies and pools closed. 4chan had always been for the mindless cheap lulz

I miss the times when they sent Pitbull to Alaska or Taylor Swift to a deaf school. Hell, I even miss Boaty McBoat face.

At least those were fun and interesting.

That was around the time they turned Tay the twitter AI into a racist woman hater. 4chan has always been just…chaos. Sometimes they do evil. Sometimes they do good.

Like one time they used their autism powers to blow up Syrian rebels? But also around that same time they just…broke Shia LaBeouf.

Oh look it’s exactly what I predicted with generative AI. We’ve wound the clocks back to 2014, when Russia used 4chan and reddit to fuel organized campaigns of hatred that paved the way for the alt right, Trump, and his ilk.

    Really? We’re doing this again?

Haven’t we all learned by now that there will always be a part of 4chan that will do something bad purely because they think it’s funny? Just ignore these people. If we don’t give them attention and doom about them, the five people on the site being little contrarians will get bored in a week, and they’ll stop doing their stupid racism garbage.

    Simple as.

What this group of people do not realize is that they are truly not as anonymous as they think especially as AI gets more and more powerful. I look forward to the day they are all exposed along with others who think it is “fun” to be an asshole online.

I guess you’d call this growing pains, and it’s good this happens this early and is being done in such a manner. There’s just no way to reason with corporate, you have to point a gun at its head to make it move.

There was a way to exploit the flaws in generative AI without actually contributing to propaganda and disinformation machines. Believe it or not, the “Mickey Mouse holding a Garand” in Facebook’s AI stickers would be preferable to show corporations how AI can harm their business interests in the hopes they drop it or reform it.
