Burkina Faso last year experienced two military coups — both triggered in part by discontent at failures to stem a raging jihadist insurgency. 101 of building pressure. russia will use this project as pawn, if they want a thing from the usa in the future they can say ‘give us X and we stop the project that would allow people u dont like to get close to nuklear material’
@einfach_orangensaft Burkina Faso already shares a border with its ally Niger which is a uranium exporter. I don’t think they need to do this to “get close”.
Basically if it does get built it will be Russian-owned and operated and supply power to other countries in the region - a region full of geopolitical manouevering.
The Sahel is mineral rich and has a lot of oil and gold, among other things. Actually building this could be a strategic move.
