Another pretty good addition to the Proton family.
How’s it compare to bitwarden? Bitwarden is so good it’d be hard to move over even as a Proton Unlimited subscriber
Others have mentioned that it is missing quite a bit compared to Bitwarden. As a 1Password user, I won’t consider switching anytime soon and that’s as a visionary. With that said, if they can pull out all the stops, it could be competitive.
It’s definitely not as feature rich, but so far, it seems to be really well made.
I’m wondering the same thing as a Bitwarden and Proton Unlimited user. I see that Proton Pass has SimpleLogin integration but as an Unlimited user I already have that. I suppose I could install Proton Pass and try it out for funsies.
Same question, and my answer is to not rock the boat.
Bitwarden is already good, and they’ve earned my money.
From what I can tell as both a Bitwarden user and Proton Unlimited subscriber as well, is that Proton Pass is very good, but offers no reason to switch to it from Bitwarden, other than wanting to centralize more stuff to your Proton account. I don’t like the idea of centralizing stuff to Proton, despite their products being FOSS and them respecting privacy and everything, just out of principle. To be clear, it’s a very well made password manager and looks awesome, it just doesn’t really offer anything that Bitwarden doesn’t, so therefore I’m not compelled to switch to it, because there is (in my eyes) only a downside of switching, being the centralization of more services controlled by a single company. I don’t think that’s too big of an issue though, and still am comfortable recommending Proton Pass to anyone who doesn’t use a password manager yet (or anyone who uses their browser as a password manager), just why would I switch to it from Bitwarden?
If I’m switching soon anyway should i choose another service to avoid centralization or should i go ahead and use this since I’m already bought-in to the ecosystem?
Seriously: lastpass gets hacked like every other week and a lot of other password managers are kinda niche and unproven, which isn’t really trustworthy either, if they aren’t foss. 1Password has a kinda good track record but since they’ve gone total corporate sellout I’m not sure about them anymore. Selfhosted bitwarden is the way to go for me.
Same question but for 1Password. I love 1Password but I admit I’m intrigued by Proton’s take on the password manager.
Would love to see them release an alternative to Google Photos.
