Sure, use spellcasting in a world where even knowing about anything eldritch makes you insane. Low intelligence builds live longer.

Can’t go mad from having an existential crisis if you’re too dumb to have one in the first place.

Absolutely. For anyone not familiar, one of the mechanics in call of cthulu is an intelligence roll that if you fail, you’re good, but if you succeed on the roll… Well then your mind correlates all its contents and you go mad

Going mad is part of the fun though

Me neither, this is just a one-shot for halloween. But this kind of you-are-a-piece-of-shit-and-cannot-do-anything-to-survive isn’t something I’d do for weeks on end.

I actually try to go insane or die before the end of the one-shot usually. Not this one thought, because a soul is in jeopardy this time.

See, that’s the secret. It isn’t if you go insane and get devoured by a deep one, it’s when.

CoC players should remember combat and spellcasting should be avoided at all costs. Your characters don’t know what these spells really do and are too fragile, just like we are, for any heroic D&D action.

You don’t win CoC…best you can hope for is to lose less.
