Still wish folks would stop saying MAGA Republicans. They can just say Republicans it means the same thing.

Polling shows that “MAGA” has a far more negative perception in the mind of the average person than “Republican.” Explicitly tying the two together is a solid political strategy.

That and the fact that there’s a not insignificant number of people who are center-right politically and identify as Republican but don’t like Trump or the recent direction of the party. It’s not a majority or even a plurality of Republicans, but it’s enough to have an impact in close races.

Biden attacking “MAGA Republicans” instead of “Republicans” gives the center-right voters a permission structure to support Democrats because the choice gets reframed from “us (Democrats) vs. you (Republicans)” to “us (the sane ones) vs. them (the crazies)”.

This is why we need a proportional representation political system. Then MAGA party is it’s own thing, where they have tantrums in the corner and we ignore them.

Right up there with republicans constantly tying democrats discussing social policy to communism. Can’t even have a discussion about social policy without some right wing nut going off the rails about socialism and communism.

Considering he’s running against Trump, reminding people of Trump when Republicans lose is a good strategy.

It’s also a very deliberate strategy to give a little bit of space for people who’ve identified as Republicans in the past but refuse to follow Trump. He’s saying that you don’t have to identify as a Democrat, or even necessarily drop the Republican party as a whole, but rather you simply have to recognize the obvious fact that Trump represents a major departure from the Republican party of the past and refuse to go along with it.

Of course, the part that isn’t being said is that the old Republican party is well and truly dead and buried, but speaking diplomatically like that is very good politics and can help him net some more moderate votes in tighter margin states.

To paraphrase Sun Tzu, always leave an enemy an exit. A trapped enemy will fight harder if they can’t flee.

Yes. People need a permission structure to change their vote, particularly people who really see their party as part of their identity.

But make sure you light horse cavalry is waiting in the wings to overrun your fleeing enemy and mow them all down.

They can just say Republicans it means the same thing.

It really doesn’t. For example there’s a bunch of Republican voters in Ohio who just enshrined Abortion access into their State Constitution but that action is inconsistent with the idea of MAGA.

MAGA Republican’s aren’t keeping people like Brian Fitzpatrick (Pennsylvania) in office, that’s being done by “Republicans” or “Moderate Republicans”.

So no, they ain’t all “MAGA” and we are clearing seeing Republican voters push back on MAGA in many places.

If we keep using a distinction, there will be infighting and turmoil. It helps to split their party when it comes to election time.

Nope. I think he’s right to keep saying MAGA. It drives home that they didn’t, couldn’t, wouldn’t, don’t, won’t and can’t make America the piece of shit they want it to be.

Not everywhere, Joe, not everywhere. Texas is still well and truly red, much to the chagrin of sane folks everywhere and despite those same folks voting blue wherever possible.

Maybe if voters got off their ass in Texas and participated, you’d see some change. 55% of the registered voters didn’t vote in '22. That was after they fucking froze or baked to death because the power grid is fucked.

The margin of victory (in Texas) was actually quite narrow when you consider how many didn’t vote. I’m guessing among the non-participants was at least 1 mil liberals that thought Biden had no chance of winning. This was one of the closest races since 1992 (but that was mainly because of Ross Perot).

          Non-voters aren’t really ‘non-voters’. They’re just voting for “I’ll have what they’re having”.

I couldn’t imagine throwing away your only voice just to get what you don’t want.

Edit: Looks like non-voters only vote when it doesn’t count. lol

This is the best summary I could come up with:

President Joe Biden has declared that “MAGA lost” as he celebrated Tuesday’s election results that saw wins for Democrats and a significant victory for abortion rights in Ohio.

Biden took to social media site X, formerly Twitter, and praised the results of elections that saw Democrats rack up notable wins in the Kentucky governor’s race and in the Virginia legislature.

“Across the country tonight, democracy won and MAGA lost,” Biden wrote on his X account on Tuesday, referring to the Make America Great Again slogan associated with former President Donald Trump, who remains the Republican frontrunner in polls for the party’s 2024 presidential nomination.

Biden may have been making reference to recent polls from The New York Times/Siena College that showed Trump leading the president in five key swing states.

Ohioans and voters across the country rejected attempts by MAGA Republican elected officials to impose extreme abortion bans that put the health and lives of women in jeopardy, force women to travel hundreds of miles for care, and threaten to criminalize doctors and nurses for providing the health care that their patients need and that they are trained to provide.

“It’s official: there will be absolutely no abortion ban legislation sent to Glenn Youngkin’s desk for the duration of his term in office, period, as we have thwarted MAGA Republicans’ attempt to take total control of our government and our bodies,” Locke said.

The original article contains 537 words, the summary contains 233 words. Saved 57%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
