if lemmy ever wants to succeed, we have to stop being obsessed with reddit and reddit drama.

I’ll be using both platforms and seeing how it goes. Lemmy has a totally different vibe, but it’s a welcome one. Feels like the old days of the open internet. Also the memes are better 😂

Yes! We ran our own car club forum on phpbb for a few years had about 200 members most were active. Good times.

I think there’s a Lemmy ui that looks very similar to the phpbb client lol. I think it’s called lemmyBB, I saw it on GitHub

I know it’s frustrating, but just give it time. Folks will get tired of it eventually.

Just a few days ago, the Reddit talk had already died down. With the mass exodus, it will be talked about for a bit before it dies down again.

Imo, that’s good engagement. It’s what people are going through. There’s no reason to ignore it. Just as long as they don’t keep talking about it a month from now.

Eh, this is the internet. Reddit and Twitter being dumpster fires this week is the hot topic. Something will likely come up soon enough to become the next circlejerk. But, to your point, it keeps driving engagement, which will increase traffic and conversation, and as long as the knuckleheads steer clear will help us build vibrant communities.

Reminds me of the Digg v4 migration to Reddit 🤷

For months after the digg refugees showed up, the reddit frontpage was flooded with posts talking about digg - the changes, it’s leadership, and what it was doing now or how it’s metrics were failing.

        It’ll pass.

I expect the exodus to be much less than some others are calling for, only because people are way more stubborn to breaking up with content than the app that serves it

Content is one of Lemmy’s biggest problems right now. Even if you’re looking at niche subs on Reddit there are plenty of posts and activity, where as here most of the communities are pretty barren in comparison.

Hopefully, the influx of new users will start to generate a bit of momentum to jump start the process.

Reddit has makers and viewers. I hope that this change moves makers here so the viewers will follow. The garbage app caters to viewers so I can see it pushing the makers out.

Sadly way too many people are too lame to actually do anything in their personal lives about the API changes. Makes me kinda sad to see

Honestly, today with Reddit going through with the API changes and Twitter absolutely destroying their platform, this kind of feels like a lovely little campfire away from a collapsing civilization.

Not to be super dramatic, both platforms will still live, but lord it’s a weird couple of days for some internet communities.

I think all the people who would have migrated to Lemmy have already done so. Tomorrow will probably just be one more “normal” day for the lemmyverse.

We are the very loud minority, but one can hope that reddit implodes tomorrow…

That was my 11 to 9 year long app and I deleted it today (it was harder to delete the app than my profile). Today I bitch and moan. Tomorrow or maybe in a week I will be done and hopefully we just wash our hands of the current filth that is reddit and embrace the next gen. I’m excited to see what Lemmy can do.

Not true at all. Most people found out about Lemmy at the close of RiF and Apollo

Honestly I made my Lemmy account and subscribed to communities a couple weeks ago, but still found myself opening Apollo all the time. Now that it opens to an empty screen I’ve been opening wefwef instead and the community feels much more alive than it did a few weeks ago. I think the impact will be bigger than expected.

I’ve heard about Lemmy a while ago, but I was too lazy to go there, let alone register. Now, once Sync died, I felt becoming a Lemmy member was the only way.

I think the people that came here from the first reddit migration should have moved on from talking about reddit already. the new wave give them 2 weeks and we should be good to go. usually takes about 1 week to get over a breakup LMAO!
