now I can’t even browse reddit since there is a never ending stream of posts and comments on lemmy ^^

I could browse lemmy all day, I still need to find some kind of lemmy browsing/life balance xD

I feel the same way. I wanted to experiment how it feels if I do not open reddit at all for a couple of days. (To no ones surprise,) I don’t even miss it. Conversations are more engaging here and I feel happy about feeding the fediverse :D

I miss some communities here that are present on Reddit. But you’re right, here you can feel yourself more free and more engaged. With some time and some effort, this can be very awesome.

What communities? They can be built here

Specific video game communities, like the subreddit for stardew valley or for Temtem, they aren’t here yet

There are funny ones, like 2westerneurope4u and balkans_irl; useful ones in general, like astralprojection and meditation, an useful ones in my case, like stratterarx and aspergers. I also miss polandball, but to reach that quality level it’s needed a lot of time and more users.

It’s much nicer though, lemmy is not designed to be addictive so it’s much easier to not waste time on it.

It’s just temporary hype. Things should settle down eventually, though never all the way down to where they were. pagination, no karma or rewards, no agressive notifications, etc. all mean lemmy is a far healthier platform than Reddit.

Since the API announcement, I’ve made a big effort not to open Reddit. It’s working so far. Found Lemmy…but more importantly actually took Mastodon seriously. With the Ivory app, goodness, I’m loving it! So many helpful and knowledgeable people.

I’ve been following tags on topics I’m interested in, and just really digging the community.

Same here. I unsubbed most of the “time waster” subreddits and kept only the niche communities that aren’t established anywhere else yet. I’m checking out mastodon next

The niche communities I can’t find here are probably the only reason I’ll begrudingly keep my account around. Like I’m pretty sure I’m not finding a group of people here to talk about the new Gloryhammer album with and if I did the band members wouldn’t be part of it lol.

For me it’s the deahcore community. And same thing there with band members regularly dropping by to interact with the community

Good luck! Mastodon has been a dream community for me. I haven’t yet made any persistent friends, but engaging with people’s toots has been awesome.

It’s not just Mastodon, there are instances that don’t use the software. Akkoma and *key are gaining ground.

I’ve lurked on Reddit since the Digg exodus very rarely posting / commenting on anything. Although lemmy is lacking content and more niche communities at the moment I find myself actually wanting to take part in the discussions here and not just consuming.

I agree. This feels like the beginning of something beautiful and I’m guessing we’re still in the honeymoon phase.

But yeah, better to be here than on the corporatized hell hole that reddit has become.

I’ve noticed an increase in lemmy usage myself, this used to be a check every few days or so, but with the recent influx of users there’s more things to interact with now.
