For anyone else wondering, Lyman was a character for Jon to talk to, a roommate and apparently not a partner. He disappeared after the author realized you can talk to cats.

Get rid of the top panels and all text and the joke will still land. If you really want, swap the top left and bottom left to make it clear early on its cold.
However, this was made for newspapers, they care a bit more about panel count.
Combine the door in the second to last panel with him walking with Odie frozen.
You could have the same joke with just the last 2 panels
