NATO nukes are fully operational. China’s nukes are operational. Russia’s nukes are likely broken and sold for parts. Pakistan’s nukes are largely broken. India’s likely are operational. Israel’s nukes are fully operational.

    How many? Too many.

I believe Israel has never officially admitted to having nuclear weapons, although its a very open secret that they do. But that increases the problem of not knowing how many are out there.

They won’t openly admit it, because then they might be held to standards.

But they leak evidence that they do so surrounding countries know if any of them attempt to hold them accountable, Netanyahu will turn the entire Middle East into glass.

Which is why Republicans support Israel. Part of the Evangical “end of times” starts with Israel having a massive war with their neighbors, and they want the apocalypse because they think they’ll all get sent to heaven without the whole dying part via rapture.

Yeah but on paper Russia has more nukes than the US.

While this is highly unlikely, especially if we’re talking about functional nukes. But, also equally unlikely that they have less than 10. That’s plenty

And nuclear weapons being broken up and sold for parts is not especially reassuring.

We’ve lost track of nuclear waste in the US. Not far from Pittsburgh they have a cleanup site where waste was once dumped. Funny thing about paper records is they deteriorate a lot faster than nuclear waste. They started the cleanup and realized there was a whole lot more than what was originally expected.

That’s the interesting thing about nuclear waste. It’s kind of easy to dispose of, you just put it somewhere safe and leave it the fuck alone until it’s not nuclear waste any more. The tricky part is the fact is the wait is a few thousand years and you need to find a way to pass the “leave this the fuck alone” message along to the descendents.

Am I the only one more concerned about the biggest nuclear plant in Europe being 30km from the Ukrainian front line?

It’s like that famous headline: “The Invasion Is Ukrain’s Chernobyl”

I suppose the calculation would be that if a reactor accident happened, it would force the US to drop in troops on a humanitarian mission. No one really wants that to happen.
