Seeing as it’s Christmas here’s a list with facts about each of the guns that appear in Die Hard. Where John McClane topples a terrorist takeover of a Christmas party at Nakatomi Plaza.

  1. Beretta 92FS. Beretta are the oldest firearms makers in the world, the one used by Bruce Willis had a enlarged magazine and slide release. Video [4:13]

  2. Walther P5. The P5 also appears as James Bond’s pistol in Octopussy and Never Say Never Again.

  3. Styer SSG 69. In the film the rifle features a Generation 2 night vision AN/PVS-3 starlight scope. Video [15:44]

  4. Heckler & Koch P7M13. Originally Hans was supposed to use a Walther but ended up instead with the P7. It features a cocking grip which requires the user to squeeze it depressed in order to fire. Video [23:33]

  5. Heckler & Koch HK94. This civilian version of the MP5 was modified to look like a MP5A3 for the film. It lacks the tri-lug mount and the paddle magazine release it should have. Also here’s a link explaining why it’s called the HK94: http://www.hecklerkoch.net/generalinfo.htm Video [6:18]

  6. M60E3. This version of the M60 was designed to be lighter weight at 19.4 lbs (8.8 kgs), 3.5 lbs (1.6 kg) less than the M60. Video [14:30]

  7. Walter PPK. Unlike with most German handguns here the K doesn’t stand for Kurz (short) but instead Kriminal as it’s full name is the Polizei Pistole Kriminal. It was made for undercover police officers. Video [16:11]

  8. MGC M-16 Model Corp Replica Rifle. This non-firing metal replica was made because hard rubber army training rifles were not available yet to film industry at first.

  9. M60. Affectionately known as ‘the pig’ in military service it was issued with an asbestos glove for quick swapping overheating barrels. Video [28:28]

  10. Smith & Wesson Model 15. This .38 Special revolver was used by the LAPD up into 1988, the exact year the film is set.

  11. Steyr AUG. the AUG features a progressive trigger that goes from semi-automatic to automatic as you apply more pressure to the trigger. Video [17:38]

This is a little different from the normal post here but tis the season so I figured I’d mix it up a bit.

Quite a few. If any pistol can claim to be the James Bond pistol it’d be the PPK, in my opinion. But I was worried if I put that as the fact for the PPK I’d be picking low hanging fruit. Plus I needed a fact for the P5 and it’s not the world most interesting gun.

I mostly just figured, since the first comment was critical, that we needed more. Especially in a gun community.

Am I crazy or does that sound like a terrible design decision? It sounds like you could easily go from pew to pewpewpewpew just by getting a little too squeezy, which seems like an occupational hazard in a pew situation.

What about the ceramic gun that metal detectors can’t see? The one that costs more than you make in a month?

Perry: My $2000 ceramic Vektor my mother got me as a special gift. You threw in the lake next to the car. What happens when they drag the lake? You think they’ll find my pistol. Jesus. Look up “idiot” in the dictionary. You know what you’ll find?

      Harry: A picture of me?

Perry: No! The definition of the word idiot, which you fucking are!

I think that the Glock 7 was in 2 or 3.

This does belong here. Not one single one of these weapons I’ve remembered. Well, maybe the SSG. The rest are forgettable and pretty unknown weapons

A lot of the stuff Ian McCollum features on his show isn’t truly forgotten. Figured this’d be a fun holiday post that people in All might enjoy.

Edit: Please be kind to the guy I replied to.

It was fun, and I thought a little banter would be fun too. But clearly I triggered some very sensitive individuals. Haha.
