Gemini24601to unix_surrealism@lemmy.sdf.org•New 9front release: THE FRONT END OF TOMORROWEnglish1·20 days agoIs Plan9/9Front worth getting into? And is it even usable as a daily driver? Because I only have amd64 computers, maybe I could try it in a VM.
He had been training for that moment his entire life.
I took a small hiatus from Lemmy and came back to this- what is happening?
As a zoomer myself, I’m afraid that this graph is inaccurate
Gemini24601to Mildly Infuriating•The fact that this is a real image is infuriatingEnglish828·3 months agoIt is definitely a nazi salute, but what if he didn’t mean it this way? Elon is supposedly on the spectrum, so he could have done it to show his excitement, without realizing the true meanings and implications. Of course it’s possible that he did in fact know what he was doing, if so then it’s a completely different story….
Yes this Greentext introduced me to Casiopea and jazz fusion, Mint Jams is still my favorite album of theirs. Other notable works of the genre include Miles Davis’s In a Silent Way, Masayoshi Takanaka’s On Guitar, and ISSEI NORO INSPIRITS’ BEAUTY.
Gemini24601OPto Mildly Infuriating•No one: Laptop. Could this be hardware or software related?English1·4 months agoI’m probably going to look at Dell or Lenovo for a next laptop, they tend to be of higher quality. Plus old thinkpads are fast and inexpensive, so I may start looking at eBay for a good deal.

Gemini24601OPto Mildly Infuriating•No one: Laptop. Could this be hardware or software related?English2·4 months agoI haven’t ever been playing media when it happens, so I’m not sure. Also yes, I have tried plugging in external monitors, or trying to ssh in, but none work. It’s as if the computer freezes as well.
This was a wtf moment for me. Even though Discord’s privacy isn’t the best, and even though it’s proprietary, Discord has been seemingly loyal to its user base, even doing cool stuff like offering a Linux version of the app. However, if this becomes mandatory, I will promptly leave, I am horrified that they have fallen this low.
Gemini24601to No Stupid Questions•Hey is Sharing Luigi’s Manifesto on Social Media Actually "Glorifying Violence"? Because Reddit Said So 😭33·4 months agoAnyone with half a brain can see that it isn’t “glorifying” violence, it’s merely giving an explanation of why Luigi did what he did. Glorification would play more into pathos, but the manifesto is mostly ethos
Gemini24601to Lemmy.World Announcements•Lemmy.World ToS and the murder of the UHC CEO717·4 months agoWhile I agree that the murder of the CEO can be morally justified in certain aspects, we have to face the facts. Murder is murder, and I believe glorification of it is wrong. Wouldn’t the killing of a CEO just lead to the appointment of another, making the whole thing pointless? It’s possible that a new CEO will do things differently, but they’d probably do more or less the same. In the end, all the murder achieves is CEOs fearing for their safety and eventually hiring bodyguards, making them even more disconnected from society, and even less likely to donate to charity or the poor. For these reasons, I think lemmy.world is doing the right thing, I don’t think that murder of anyone not convicted of war crimes should be glorified, I’d prefer to stay neutral on such topics.
This really is a Liminal Space; it’s transitional and temporary (it’s a train station), and from what I can see, it is devoid of any life. I am surprised the post got so little attention.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who watched this movie, and to think Linux users did too!
“Nome” or “guh-nome,” that is the question
In my opinion, technology keeps improving, however that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s getting better. I think innovation in technology peaked from the 2000s to the early 2010s, after this period however, it has continually become more and more “enshitified,” meaning that features no one wanted suddenly being added. For example, “ai coffee maker” (this is real), like who asked for this? Not to mention, not only is everything more bloated, but levels of privacy have decreased significantly; every aspect of your digital life is capitalized on for advertising. The early 2010s were simpler times.
I’ve wondered that myself, but I’ve come to the conclusion that transgender individuals seem to value their privacy more than the average person. This is all due to increased cyber bullying to them online. Linux is well known for being free from data collection (except Ubuntu) and corporate greed, so it would make sense if this was an operating system of choice.
