I’ve met scientists who say God exists and the universe is billions of years old. Their perspective is definitely a bit different. They see themselves as discoverers of God’s work but their academic work was just as valid as their atheist colleagues. Most often they were the first to criticize their church and continued to believe. Blew my mind.
I worked for a German company briefly. The pay was great and they literally wouldn’t let me do overtime. Best job I’ve ever had.

Lately I’ve caught myself thinking differently. The left is progressive because they want to progress civil rights. The centerists are conservative because they just don’t want things to change. The right is regressive because they want to turn back the clock. Honestly I think we need to stop calling people on the right conservative and give them the new label regressives.
The difference between a million dollars and a billion dollars is about a billion dollars. Although the millionaires have to stop clutching their pearls, step up and realize that they’re a lot closer in class to the homeless than the billionaires.
It depends on what field you’re studying. Some fields of study, like social studies, move very quickly. So it’s not uncommon for someone studying one of those subjects to exclude research that’s even 10 to 15 years old because things move so quickly.
A different subject, say hydrologic engineering has been studied for hundreds of years and doesn’t change very quickly. So a publication from 1994 could be just as valid today as it was then. Every topic is different and without more context the meme as is, is just meant to incite a reaction. Not to tell us about something that actually happened.

That’s pretty much every job that’s responded to me. A few weren’t but most places made it clear that if I’m not willing to put in overtime I shouldn’t put in my application. Crunch time is just the standard now. The worst part is even those jobs have thousands of people applying for them, so my odds of even getting noticed at all are tiny. Plus that means any position I get my manager has a thousand resumes lined up just in case they want a rapid personnel switch. Add the fact that a business owner can fire me at anytime without giving a reason, and suddenly even my two advanced degrees won’t save me.

Just because the Democrats are the most left leaning party available to Americans doesn’t make the democratic party a left leaning party. If anything the Democrats are centerists because their ultimate objective is to maintain the status quo. Lemmy reaches to far more countries that just the United States, places that have left leaning parties. Even left-wing extremists parties, although they’re definitely on the ropes lately.
The Democrats aren’t a progressive party, they’re a conservative party. It’s just with MAGA in the room the scale has moved so far to the right that the center (conservative) seems progressive.
I can’t speak for Germany but my car insurance wouldn’t cover arson. It only covers liability, so if I cause damage or personal injury with my vehicle then my insurance kicks in and covers the other person’s damages. If I wreck my car in a single vehicle collision, a tree falls on it, or someone who doesn’t have insurance hits me then I get nothing. That is collision and/or comprehensive insurance that cover those situations respectively.
However I know that if I were to lease a vehicle, I would need to get comprehensive insurance as part of the lease agreement. These were probably leased so their insurance might cover it, definitely not all of those Tesla owners though.
You’re confusing sex with gender. Both are a spectrum but sex is a biological spectrum of sexual organs in a living creature and gender is a quality, projection and performance of a person that also lands on a spectrum.
The confusion is because they both use male and female but sex and gender are different things. Gender can change throughout a person’s life. A person’s sex is consistent throughout life and can’t be changed. A person’s gender can’t change their sex. Sex also isn’t as simple as xx is female and xy is male, there’s a whole bunch of things that can’t put a person in one, both, or none of those categories. Gender is even more complicated.

The only thing Lemmy doesn’t have that Reddit does is an enormous collection of discussions about technical solutions. I can not think of another way to look for answers to tech questions that doesn’t send me straight to SEO crap trying to sell me a solution. No I don’t want to pay for a subscription to your crappy software to make cron jobs that I’ll just have to debug anyway. I want to learn what flag I put in wrong so it’ll work in the first place.
