This is so stupid, but I love it so much. 🤣 I’m tempted to give it a try, but I’m worried that once I get used to mechanical switches on my garage door opener - I’ll need them throughout the rest of the house too.

While I appreciate what you’re trying to do, I won’t be participating. There’s two major issues.

1. Reddit Admins/ Place mods have shown in the past that they have zero problem with removing stuff from places that they don’t want there. Expect them to do the same with this.

2. Place is a blatant ploy to try to drive traffic to Reddit. I have zero intention of returning and padding Reddit’s engagement. Whether they’re using the engagement infusion as part of their IPO attempt, to encourage advertisers to use their services, or even just as a bragging stat in a blog post; I wouldn’t feel right about contributing.

This is the kind of shit that’d have driven me nuts a few months ago. Now? It’s just hilarious how brazen they are.

Peripheral compatibility was my biggest issue. Most vendors just don’t make Linux versions. One that I couldn’t work around was my Razer Huntsman v2 Analog. While I was told about the open source Razer app alternatives, they were far from feature complete. My keyboard ended up defaulting to a profile where WASD emulated a controller instead, and the software didn’t have a way of changing it outside of windows.

Indie software is also a big miss. I play FF14. I use a Streamdeck with a custom plugin for hot keys. That is windows only. I use Teamcraft. Also windows only.

The problem is really one that I’m feeding into by going back to windows. There’s just not enough people on Linux to rationalize app development on smaller projects for it. I feel bad going to a one man Dev team and being like “Hey, you should stop everything and do this for just me, because no one else will use the Linux version”.

Could I work around some of these issues? Probably. Could I advocate for Linux software and put together my own alternatives? Probably. But by the time I’m done with work and just want to play a game…I don’t want to spend hours reinventing the wheel.

Ultimately windows is there, and I can make it do what I need it to do. While I’d love to use Linux, it’s just not a viable option for me.

How in the world did so many of these companies not do due diligence on their ad-spend and catch this? This is just hilarious.

I’d imagine that this is because PC will STILL not be on the “Next Gen” version of the game. It’s amazing that they keep selling copies on PC.

At risk of sounding a bit rude, because you’re talking about it instead of sharing some yourself. Lemmy is still rather undeveloped as a community. It’s an excellent opportunity to shift communities to post more of the kinds of things you’re interested in.

Want more real people posts? Share some! It’ll draw more people who feel the same way, and some of them will start sharing too. At worst, sharing some makes for a better community for all of us. :)

I replaced Apollo with Memmy on my board in the same place. I still have muscle memory to hit there when I’m bored, and scroll. Lemmy isn’t the same, and it’s not as good as Reddit in a lot of ways - but I’m loving seeing the enthusiasm for updates and progress. It’s really fun seeing things coming together. I view the recent stability issues as a great thing. It shows there’s a lot of interest in migrating.

Hopefully this place continues to succeed.
