Kelly is such an obvious home run pic I don’t even know why they’re discussing it. I guess the only issue is maybe his senate seat.

His seat isn’t going anywhere. AZ law requires another Dem to be appointed by the Governor for the remainder of the term, 2 more years for his seat. And the AZ Governor is a Dem, they aren’t going to find a fake Dem to replace Kelly and try to steal the seat.

I think the issue is about the seat after 2 years. Might be harder to keep the seat with Mark or if that race. That said he is my to vp pick and possible future president candidate. I hope he gets it.

I was big on Kelly but recently seeing Waltz as a better pick. Waltz has a stronger record on labor and could help capture blue-collar voters in the Midwest. Plus he’s gone on Fox News to call out Trump.

Kelly’s positions on things like insurance are awful, but perhaps because of these positions, he really is a great pick. The best choices are probably “too controversial.” Even the mayor is centrist on some things, but folks will get hung up on something else… He has time to shine.

He’s not just a Centrist he’s like the exact platonic ideal of a neoliberal.

Kelly’s positions on things like insurance are awful,

I went looking when you posted this. He’s not in favor of single payer, which I am, but he’s a big proponent of the ACA, Tricare, and Medicare (where he supported Medicare Advantage options. Here’s the source I found. source

I’d like him to be better, but he could be far worse on healthcare.

That’s a fair point, but ACA is just such a low bar. Awful is probably too strong, but I would say his position on health care is poor.

The other side has wanted to repeal the ACA for years and replace it with Swiss cheese policies that don’t offer comprehensive coverage… Since Kelly is supporting the ACA and other government run healthcare initiatives, it makes him infinitely better than the other side. That said, I’d prefer single payer.

I agree with you, except that I am not comparing him to the other side right now, I am comparing him to other potential Vice Presidents. We really need single payer to be a main talking point.

I don’t know much about him, but if you’re right, maybe they’re worried he will be too much candidate for VP? Like everyone will start thinking the roles should be reversed? If I were working for the Trump campaign, and Harris picked a home-run VP with no obvious flaws to pick on, that’s how I would spin it. We’ve already had the nominee drop out, so anything goes. Sow rumors of discontent among “anonymous party leaders” calling for Harris to step aside for a better candidate.

That’s not how they will couch it, though. It will be shit like, “Doesn’t she seem tired?” “She’s been VP for four years, but what has she accomplished?” “She doesn’t have the popularity|polling|gravitas to win against Trump.” “Her VP is polling better in these swing states, and has a better chance to win.” “Bigots will vote against her, but they might stay home if the VP is the nominee.”

Mark Kelly the corporate Democrat? He might help a bit in AZ but he’ll lower turnout elsewhere.
