I disavow the ignorance displayed in the statement that “Feminists always think women are better than men.” But felt important to share how well received such a message is received on this site.

Sadly and ironically, FOSS mentality and bigotry have a very broad overlap. I guess being terminally online at a formative age can have only so many outcomes.
most foss spaces im in are one of the gayest places ever :3
Glad to hear you’ve found welcoming places. It is unfortunately not the case for most of the community and the first step in making any kind of improvement is acknowledging the problem.
My guess is that bigotry is fairly common in general. I really say that there is somehow less of it in the FOSS space.
While I see how it would be very logical to think that a community founded under the principles of openness, cooperation and liberty would have less bigotry, this is sadly not the case.
Your evidence being “Just trust me bro, I DEFINITELY know my stuff”
You didn’t ask for evidence, just assumed there wasn’t any. Go bother someone else.
Okay, I’ll ask for evidence then.
Source?

Already sourced since way before you left your comment. Did you just wanna argue?
Did you just want to make bold statements without expecting to defend them?
Thank you for letting me know you have no interest in learning. Saves me some time.
Thank you for letting me know you have no interest in actually trying to communicate with people. Saves me some effort.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence Why don’t you learn basic debate etiquette buddy & go bother someone that’s a troglodyte just like you are
(Imagine smearing an entire community as bigots & expecting people to take your word at face value)
Shoo shoo
… What?
Is this a comment intended for a different post?
Don’t see what you don’t get.
Where does FOSS come in to it? Doesn’t seem related to the OP?
I see. Lemmy, and the fediverse in general, have a higher concentration of FOSS-minded people.
Lemmy is FOSS. Lemmy and the reactions were being compared to reddit which is not FOSS, and it was being said that Lemmy is worse for bigotry.
Do you not comprehend how a thread works or are you incapable of retaining basic context?
Thanks. Did not make that connection. Lemmy is different to reddit in many ways (e.g. smaller, federated, moderated differently). The fact that the source is available doesn’t seem like something that would have an meaningful effect on the userbase, 99%+ of whom never interact with the code.

It’s just an observation from the years I’ve spent in the FOSS, OSS and general tech communities, but sure:
‘Patches don’t have gender’: What is not open in open source software (this one’s restricted but I’m sure you know how to get around that)
Diversity in open source is even worse than in tech overall

thanks, your original comment didn’t adequately convey the scale you meant to indicate and so this helps :)
You’re welcome! I found some interesting reading while reviewing the sources so thank you, too.
