When I first took down the Venetian blinds the mount at the top wouldn’t come down even after removing the screws. I had forgotten about landlord paint logic and just tore it down and like 16 different layers of paint peeled off.
I bought my house recently from a guy who had been renting it out for the last 40 years. He painted everything before putting it on the market but I didn’t like the color. When I started the prep work for repainting, everything he put up peeled off like shelf paper. I was denouncing him as a total moron until the paint I put up did the same thing. In one room I even painted the walls and when I came back the next morning the paint had all flowed down to the floor and ruined the carpet.
Turns out the last tenant was a smoker and the walls were coated with nicotine. Had to wipe the whole house down with mineral spirits to get paint to stick.
I really hate paint on hinges more than anything else. It is so ridiculously easy to unscrew a door first. Maybe it’s justifiable for exterior doors if you can’t leave the property unsecured while the paint dries, but there’s no excuse for interior doors.
When you’re getting paid per job (by a landlord) you don’t waste time removing doors. There’s no “pride in your work” either. The AC doesn’t get turned on until next week. Sometimes the water doesn’t either, so every extra minute there sucks.
You also just follow whatever the last guy did. If I’m first, I cut in fixtures. It’s just as fast as covering them in paint.
You can also just put tape over the hinges and cut them out with a boxcutter and then paint. You can leave the cabinets up and still not paint the hinges. There’s really no excuse.
It’s not a landlord special unless it’s got some bugs caught in layers of white paint.
Your Command strip accidentally breaks the paint and underneath is more layers of fucking paint - not drywall

Also cabinets painted shut and paint over the knobs and hardware on all the doors.
And over the electrical outlets
