as someone who felt this way without kids, and now has kids.

you’ll get it when you have kids and grow up.

Is having children a requisition for growing up?

Giving into your base animal instincts is a sign of maturity now, is it?

Giving into your base animal instincts isnt really a sign of maturity or immaturity AS LONG as you do it in ways thst dont harm other peaceful individuals.

Like giving into your base animal instincts to drop kick a nazi who keeps on following yoy everywhere and pestering you everywhere even though the police wont help you isnt a sign of immaturity.

Giving intk your nase animal instincts of Having a child if you feel stable enough , chronologically, financially, and psychologically, to raise them correctly probably is a sign of maturity. (Though I will admit that I do wonder about how a child growing up during our apocalyptic times would feel about being born during these times …)

Giving into your base animal instincts to eat when youre starving is CLEARLY a sign of maturity , rigjt? Right.

Im not telling anyone to have kids or not . Im sterilized myself. But sometimes giving into your base animal instincts isnt a wrong thing… keyword: sometimes.

Growing up is realizing that having kids is both optional and not a sign of being grown up.

Anyone with working gonads can make kids, nobody thinks the 15 year old parents are grown up.

Growing up is realizing that having kids is both optional and not a sign of being grown up.

growing up is realizing that the world doesn’t revolve around you or your needs.

growing up means putting your needs and desires second for someone else that you care about.

growing up is about learning that your perspective is limited by your own inability to empathize.

growing up is learning that your responsibilities aren’t optional.

I’m not saying you need to have kids to grow up. what I am saying is that bitching and moaning about parents taking the time away from work to parent their kids is such a tone-deaf and childish perspective and anyone who thinks this argument has any merit clearly lacks the life experience and emotional maturity of an adult.

be child free I couldn’t give any less fucks since it’s a personal choice. however, don’t expect parents to sit by and allow you to unjustly shame them because the company you work for is a piece of shit that abuses childfree employees. take it up with your employer and lodge complaints against policies with HR.

that’s the thing I hate the most about childfree communities, the loudest most outspoken members often expect special treatment for simply existing as they always have and shame parents for the extra support employers give.

you wouldn’t bitch about the wheelchair ramps for disabled employees though, would you? how about the uniquely colored TPS reports for the colorblind employees? While we’re at it, why not bitch about the screen readers for the visually impaired employees?

        yeah…didn’t think so.

anyone with a brain can have a job, but you have to have perspective and empathy to have kids.

Nobody who comes into a childfeee comm to whine about something a childfeee person said about breeders in their own life gets to say a fucking word about maturity. Sorry you were too stupid to figure out how birth control works or too blind to see how shitty your life as a diaper slave would be, but you don’t get to come in here and act like youre fucking superior for it.

Every single person with loved ones understands

putting your needs and desires second for someone else that you care about.

You aren’t fucking special just because you fucked raw.

Deciding to have kids is exactly that. A decision. You made a choice that you knew would come with sacrifices, then immediately began spending the next twenty years trying to get people who didn’t make that choice to share the sacrifices.

From extra work breaks to coming in sick after your grubby little sticky-fingered germ factory spread the daycare flu around your house so we can all experience it too, you make everyone around you worse off bcs you’re entitled to a “village”, right? Case in point:

you wouldn’t removed about the wheelchair ramps for disabled employees though, would you? how about the uniquely colored TPS reports for the colorblind employees? While we’re at it, why not removed about the screen readers for the visually impaired employees?

Absolutely none of those things require me to do extra work to pick up someone’s slack. I go to work with a disability every day, I don’t need anyone else to cover any of my work for me. That’s the fucking difference.

anyone with a brain can have a job, but you have to have perspective and empathy to have kids.

I don’t believe you’ve ever had a job or known any parents if you think either of those things are true. Plenty of brainless dipshits have jobs. Hell, most of them make management. And as a class, most parents perspective and empathy ends just outside their nuclear family. Hence why they think other people doing their jobs while they fuck off for parenting reasons is the same thing as a.fucking wheelchair ramp.

Lol, then you made the right choice. You and I will never have anything to talk about.

The people clinging to the sexual mores of the bronze age goat fuckers who invented those sexual mores to maximize the price they could get for selling their preteen daughters to their middle aged neighbors don’t get taken seriously when they use Internet buzzwords they don’t even know the definition of to insult people making arguments they hate for challenging social norms but they know they can’t refute.

Gonna block you now, because in three comments you haven’t managed to say anything entertaining or enlightening, and since I have no respect for you as a person those were the only possible outcomes that made continuing this conversation worth it.

Growing up is realizing that having kids is … optional

Is it? Even when you have a neice or nephew without a parent, and the choice is between you taking them in, or the state?

Or when you do everything right, but your protection fails?

Or when your ex wouldn’t accept the word “no”?

These aren’t abstract gotchas - I know people in each of these situations. You probably do too, if you spend some time talking to parents you know.

Hell, it’s not even a remotely exhaustive list - there’s a lot of ways where raising a kid is the responsible choice, even when you didn’t want to

Even when you have a neice or nephew without a parent, and the choice is between you taking them in, or the state?

Yes. It’s still a choice, even if you think the alternative is unacceptable.

Or when you do everything right, but your protection fails?

Or when your ex wouldn’t accept the word “no”?

Absolutely and especially then. Abortion is an option.

Hell, it’s not even a remotely exhaustive list - there’s a lot of ways where raising a kid is the responsible choice, even when you didn’t want to

It’s never the responsible choice to force a child to be raised by someone who didn’t want to raise kids. Not ever, not even a little bit.

You have chosen to be careful and avoid situations in which you will be responsible for childrearing. This is absolutely a reasonable decision.

When his sister was arrested for drug abuse, my coworker had to choose between letting his niece, whom he’d been enamored with, enter the broken US foster system, or whether to go e up bachelorhood and provide a home for her.

When my wife’s best friend found she was pregnant at 18 months, she had to decide whether to carry this child to term or have an abortion. She was and remains very pro-choice, but that’s a very different choice when you can feel the baby kicking inside you.

The choice you’ve made was yours to make, and is perfectly valid. But don’t assume everyone gets to make the same choices you do.

Pointing out that it’s a choice isn’t invalidating the choice. It’s invalidating the demand for approval, help, and extra work that people make bcs they act like the choice was a requirement.

Your coworker made a noble sacrifice, but that doesn’t entitle them to you picking up the slack for their sacrifice.

And your wife’s best friend is an idiot who let hormone driven sentiment trick her into ruining her life, and I hope she has the decency to live with that by herself instead of dragging everyone else into her stupid “village”.
