From Owl Rescue Centre

“The indignity I shall endure for being misidentified as a dangerous, venomous slithering creature”…

We collected this fluffy little owl at Sibanye-Stillwater’s mine offices near Marikana this afternoon. She was found by staff walking around their workshop this morning.

Just as well, as she’s just skin and bones. It happens often with these juvenile Spotted Eagle Owls. They can find themselves in areas too far for their parents to locate and feed them.

We’ll rehab and release her back at the mine once she’s old enough to care for herself 😉

I’m waiting for the platypus-owl to show up on this new season of Avatar.

I’m also kinda curious how big of snakes these buckets are made for to make an eagle owl look so tiny.

Well, at a guess, the bucket needs to be large enough the snake can’t lift itself out, so the tub would be fairly empty inside.

I guess a snake is always working out its core muscles…that seems like all they have… 🤔

Ok that makes way more sense; my brain kept insisting it was regular plastic cup sized but that would make for a very teeny owl.

Yes, the scale was what caught my attention. This is a young Spotted Eagle Owl, not too much smaller than a full-grown Great Horn for us here in North America, so I knew this had to be a pretty sizeable bucket.
