This was my best showerthought I left on reddit. I didn’t want to leave it into the oblivion.

True story. One of my employees cats gave birth while she was working. Her boyfriend arrived home first and upon noticing the cat, went to check out the kittens. Well apparently the cat, who was always friendly prior, went absolutely cujo. The guy was wearing shorts and the cat just attached to his legs and shredded him. Apparently he like booted the cat a few times but it just kept coming at him. He ended up locking himself in the bathroom and had to climb out a window. The cat actually nicked an artery in his leg and he was bleeding significantly. Had to go to emergency. Apparently the bathroom looked like a war zone from what I was told.

Anyhow my cats always been good.

It’s never a good idea to go near any animal that has just given birth. Since they were vulnerable for a time, they likely kick it up a notch, plus babies to protect. It’s even a crapshoot if the bonded person can come close.

It depends. If the animal really trusts you and knows you well, they might be comforted by you being there. But if that’s not the case, or if they show any negative signs, you need to give them space.

When I was a child our cat gave birth, and she kept crying for my mom whenever she tried to leave her side.

One of my cats started to give birth while next to me. I was still a kid and thought she peed on the sofa so I went downstairs to get something to clean the mess, the cat followed me while having contractions. My mom realised what was happening and told me to leave her alone, so I tried to get away but the cat still followed me while having half a kitten hanging out. So I stayed with her the whole time. Rip little old Lisbeth.

True, although dogs are generally way better with their litter around humans than cats are

Dogs are friendly social animals. Cats are solitary murderers who put up with people because they get fed and massaged.

Domestic cats are actually a very social species, I read a couple studies on it, despite what the stereotypes make you believe. They’re just very aloof and picky with who they choose to bond with. I’ve had cats who desperately needed other cats, and I’ve had cats who really don’t like other cats, but those cats are extremely clingy with people instead.

It’s also why feral cats are found in colonies and most vets and shelters will recommend having at least 2 cats because they actually need the companionship. It’s pretty interesting!

That’s true. I’ve been around both. None were particularly aggressive to me but I was a kid when our dog had puppies but I know she was mean to mom. It was well known she didn’t like my mom though.

We had a cat that right after she gave birth, for the next two weeks she had a serious weird craving for sliced cucumber LOL! I mean seriously, she’d attack us for it while we were trying to slice it up for her.

After about two weeks, just as suddenly as her strange craving started, it almost just as suddenly stopped and she went back to only eating typical cat food like a normal kitty.

      Cats be weird yo. 😺

Gotta ask, how did she communicate that she very specifically wanted sliced cucumber?

It was kind of a freak accident really. We rarely kept any cucumbers in the house, but this time we just so happened to have one because we were gonna make a salad.

The cat happened to be in the kitchen when we started slicing it, and she smelled it and basically went batshit crazy going after it LOL! So, we sliced up about a quarter of it for her, and ended up getting her a couple more cucumbers from the store and each day we’d slice her some up around feeding time, until she lost the craving anyways.

Holy frijoles. I can’t put a good spin on that, other than… I wish Shittywatercolour (a random redditor artist) had painted a pleasant drawing for you instead of my comment here.
