You have to laugh … I remember Glastonbury, up to my knees in mud - it’s all part of the fun. Having said that, it’s unlikely turn into a survival situation in a field in Somerset, so not really that comparable …

Burning man is held on the playa.

        A playa is a dried-up lake.

This year, the playa is becoming a lake.

        Nature is healing.

Playa means beach, at least in Spanish. Where are you getting *dried up lake" from?

Playa (plural playas) may refer to:

            Landforms

            • Endorheic basin, also known as a sink, alkali flat or sabkha, a desert basin with no outlet which periodically fills with water to form a temporary lake
            • Dry lake, often called a playa in the southwestern United States

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playa

This English definition does come from the Spanish word for “Beach.”

Who else has been confused by seeing the word “playa” in news and memes in the context of Burning Man? I thought they were talking about the fuckbois at first

I really wonder how the Spanish word “beach” became “dried up lake” in English. Spanish speakers must be very confused. It’s like ハンドル in Japanese. It’s basically a Japanese pronunciation of “handle” but they use it to mean “steering wheel”.

Jokes that appear to have gone over your head aside, deserts are usually dry. In a lot of examples, a sudden flood happens, but the desert is dry the other 99% of the time.

I’m not making the argument that our climate is neither fucked nor unpredictable as a result, but what point were you trying to make?
