minus-square@elscallrlink2•7 months agoData is written to a tape in one direction. It’s on a very long magnetic ribbon. That ribbon is wrapped around two spools. Once you read through the data you have to wind it all the way backwards to read it front to back again.

Bonus points if you recorded it yourselves on VHS.
