Not only do most servers make their finances public, but a lot of them can be fiscally hosted by 501©(3) nonprofits. Which means that they can not only receive tax-deductible donations from users, but they can also apply for grants and receive donations from charity funds. Was kinda shocked the degree to which this happens setting up my small Mastodon server lol.
