I was obsessed when the books were coming out, I was still in elementary school at the time but I think it’s probably in the “young adults” category with hunger games and the like. Haven’t seen the show yet but have heard good things
I think the original commentor was saying that Percy Jackson was being used as an example of good world building and it has been used as a comparison to bad world building to show what you should be doing
Well, I guess opinions about the world building are varied, then lol. I would rank it over harry potter, but not high enough to call it good. I’d call it decent overall.
Been hearing a lot about this series recently. In particular, comparing it to inferior world building. Guess I should check it out

Let me save you some time, don’t watch the movies.
Oh, I forgot about those.
Yeah, don’t watch the movies.
I watched them and base my entire perception of the series on them.
It isn’t bad, just a bit less than rigorous in terms of mythological accuracy and internal consistency.
Blake: Gee Percy! It’s one of the Gods!
Pervy: You’re right, Blade! It’s my father, Zoinks!
Zoos: Fuck you, Blam and Patrick!

That’s a feature not a bug - the original greek myths were not exactly internally consistent either.
The fandom has revved back into gear because there’s a new TV show currently being rereleased. That’s likely why you’ve been hearing about it recently
