In this journey that we all call life, it is best to travel light, with few encumbrances holding us back.

This image made me realize that Sisko is the only one of the big 4 shows’ captains that has a any sort of relationship with his kid. 3/4 are absent parents.

Sisko had to, because one if those 3/4 blew up his wife.

Alexander’s mother died too. Worf still went out for blood cigarettes and never came back.

To be fair, Kirk and Janeway don’t have any kids (not counting the lizard babies) as far as I’m aware. And Picard wasn’t even told about his son until waaaaay later. Plus, that only came out in Picard so I don’t think it counts lol

Kirk has an adult son named David in Wrath of Khan and Search for Spock. And despite knowing about him, Kirk stayed out of his life. David didn’t even know Kirk was his dad until it’s revealed in Wrath of Khan.

Kirk didn’t know about him until he met David and Carol on Regula I the Genesis Cave.

KIRK: I did what you wanted. I stayed away. Why didn’t you tell me?

CAROL: How can you ask me that? Were we together? Were we going to be? You had your world and I had mine. And I wanted him in mine, not chasing through the universe with his father. Actually, he’s a lot like you. In many ways. Please tell me what you’re feeling.

KIRK: There’s a man out there I haven’t seen in fifteen years who’s trying to kill me. You show me a son that’d be happy to help him… My son. My life that could have been… and wasn’t. And what am I feeling? Old. Worn out.

            From Star Trek II.

So it’s not fair to blame Kirk for not being in David’s life. As soon as he knew David existed, he tried to have a relationship with him and when David was killed, he was clearly devastated to the point of hating Klingons so much that he was almost responsible for war because of it.

Ah, I misremembered that scene. I had been thinking that he was talking about staying away from David, not staying away from her, and that he’d said something about not seeing David in fifteen years.

On the other hand, would you want a mother as crazy as Janeway? She’d probably put you in the pattern buffer to punish you.

It’s the key to parenting. She learned it from O’Brien.

            Counterpoint:

Anyone else puts you in the pattern buffer, she singlehandedly takes over their galaxy and begins mass execution until you’re safe.

Woman made a clown piss himself for daring touch what’s hers.

Freeman and Mariner have a relationship. It’s strained at times, but it’s there. (And if you’re counting Jack, then Lower Decks is worth counting, too.)
