Honestly, the most painful part of this is the dichotomy between the internet’s potential to become an evolutionary point for us and help us develop as a species, and the way we’re using it… We have the entirety of human existence digitised for our convenience and available at the push of a button and we just use it to terrorise and hurt eachother…

It has so much potential and yet we use it in such a terrible way and we’re steered to do so by corporations looking to exploit us for every last dollar

Speak for yourself. The internet has been an essential part of my education, even though it wasn’t enough by itself.

By watching edutainment, I’ve learned where to look and dig deeper or even what questions to ask. For artistic endeavors, there’s more information online than any university can provide you. I got to observe fascist movements develop in real time without putting my life in danger, something that’s been invaluable in my understanding of human nature.

I discovered the source of my lifelong self hatred and depression because of social media. I only learned about the lived experiences of trans people through trans subreddits. Without hearing those, I couldn’t have connected the dots and realized what was wrong. I would’ve died if I didn’t learn this about myself, and I’m not sure if my shy ass would’ve found an in person community in time.
