    Shit take.

Explanation: US ships floating along, not attacking Houthis. Houthis attack Americans (and others) unprovoked, for shits and giggles. America strikes back.

    “AmeR1Ca is S0 IMpuSiVe!! TheY doN’t CArE 4b0ut ne1 but da J00z!”

If you need it explained further, no you fucking don’t.

Aren’t the Houthis attacking American outposts as a direct respons to America funding a genocide? Not supporting them or anything, but I don’t think it’s “unprovoked”.

The Houthis started attacking international shipping months ago, regardless of destination or country of origin.

It turns out, the “Death to America, Death to Israel, A Curse Upon the Jews” folks might be terrorist shitheads who just want to raise their profile. Who could have guessed?

Well, yeah, no arguing with that, but it’s still not “unprovoked”, and America just goes around conducting attacks within the borders of supposedly sovereign countries, not too long after saying they will not do that. We all remember the Iraq War. I hope, at least.

If Biden wants their attacks to stop, then deplatform them by not funding Israel.

            Fucking what

How is attacking Singaporean shipping because of something Israel did justified by ‘provocation’

Please, explain this fucking logic to me.

We disagree on what a valid provocation is, I think.

I’m not saying they’re attacking the right ships, what I’m saying is that they have publicly declared their reasons and are harnessing support from a humanitarian catastrophe funded by the US. If Biden stops funding this genocide, they will have less and less global support for creating a shipping bottleneck.

Yes, generally, I would regard a valid provocation as requiring the target of the attack to have done something to provoke it, and not someone entirely unrelated.

What global support for creating a shipping bottleneck are they receiving now? What reduction of support will make them stop?

I checked the wiki page of those vessels and it seems that the majoity they attacked was affiliated with Israel. One example was one Norwegian ship that initially claimed no connection and later turned out to have made a deal to deliver to Israel in January (the attack was in December).

I would say, if they are putting economic pressure on Israel as a means of sanctioning them, I don’t see the problem. Better than all the other counties that signed documents that forbid them from supporting a genocide but have not sanctioned Israel.

If that were the case, the Houthis would also attack the regimes in the area that perpetuate violence. Ain’t no angels in the middle east and they wouldn’t have to go far to find a funder of hate. They’re using a convenient excuse to justify unprovoked attacks on The Great Satan in hopes of raising their stature OR they’re doing it at the direction of a regional power. And I hope the Houthi’s shit gets pushed in.

Seems like they were provoked by a series of unending massacres committed by Israel (again, not saying they are angels or don’t have other agendas like the ones on their flag) and have clearly stated that they would stop if more aid is entering Gaza and Israel stops its aggression/US stops supporting Israel.

I’ll bite: Because the whole premise that this is another war in the middle east is incorrect.

I think the whole premise was “we should not bomb the shit out of middle eastern countries or put our troops there”. And they did. And it’s a slippery slope. And we’re all going down.

PS: “I’ll bite”? Is this some kind of implying that that person asked the question as “bait”, and not as a genuine question?

And I have no clue how to solve the situation where 2 groups claim the same piece of land and do not want to share with the other group.

Come on. We both know this is not an honest reflection of the situation. It’s not a 1-on-1 dispute. It’s colonialism and apartheid.

I am disputing any religious group having the right to kill the natives of a land and take over because of something written in some holy book, especially if they go on to form a colonial ethnostate.

Literally all Israel had to do was treat Palestinians like human beings, and it has failed for 75 years.

Ps: i think what would be fair to Palestinians after all the ethnic cleansing is to found a Palestinian state, with Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and atheist citizens who all get to vote in a fair election. Israel was going to keep the “Palestine” name anyway but they decided against it because how else does one begin the cultural erasure of an entire nation?

This kind of behaviour has been lemmy for me lately. You ask people genuinely to explain what their problem is and just get downvoted.

        It’s very reddit-like.

Really, curious why this is being downvoted.

Hilarious. If Trump wins, I’m sorry to say it’s 100% on Biden and his stupidity now.

    From the Guardian:

Joe Biden warned in a statement released after the attacks began that “if you harm an American, we will respond”.

LOL, except if they are Palestinian Americans in Gaza or the West Bank. In which case, he’ll only order a little “inquiry” until it drops off the news.

It’s bizarre… the only “choice” voters had that would place pressure on Biden was being able to abstain from voting. But noooo, we need to rob people of that only pressure card they have because a bigger evil is looming in the distance.

Biden is the one who is helping Trump win. If he doesn’t want that, he needs to drop support for a genocidal illegal colonial state known by the name of Israel and stop pretending to be a “good person”, but actually become one.

why do you think the oligarchs tolerate somebody as unstable and unfit as Trump? the corporate elite aren’t making plans for the next four years. or even eight. They’re making plans for the next handful of decades.

from their perspective the disaster that is a Trump presidency is a Peon’s problem and something they can simply weather, particularly since L’Chump is perfectly willing to cut 'em all some tax breaks and deregulate shit, and all that, so long as they flatter him and maybe stay at his hotel.

But really, what it does, it let them scare the progressives into voting for “centrists” perfectly willing to move things to a more comfortable spot. for them.

Plenty of downticket races that will have a more positive impact than a “protest vote” that will ultimately only make your life worse in the end.

They learned literally nothing in 2016, why do you think they’d suddenly take it to heart now?

            I don’t. That’s why I’m not a democrat.

The problem with downticket votes- people have been voting more progressive for ages; it that doesn’t translate to the national party which is mostly centrist…. Because they play games with their bullshit primaries.
