I’m wondering if I’m just missing how to do this. I don’t want to see posts from porn communities when I’m browsing sync in public. I’m OK with blurred NSFW posts from communities which are not marked NSFW. I would really prefer not to have to filter out every single one manually.

Log in to your account on a browser and you should be able to block NSFW at the instance level. I believe the NSFW filter in sync doesn’t really work now that the block is on the instance.

Aside from the filter that was posted which will filter out all NSFW posts, start subscribing to communities and then viewing only your subscribed communities instead of everything.

I find myself browsing everything mostly just because there’s not as much fresh content in general as on reddit.

just make it a habit. If you see something you like, check that you’re sub’d to the community

Thank you! Out of curiosity, though, will this filter NSFW posts from communities that aren’t marked NSFW? Lots of random posts get tagged NSFW, I’m just looking to avoid straight up porn communities. I wouldn’t be shocked if there’s no way to do what I want, but if that’s the case I might want to put in a feature request.

Sadly not, it will just filter everything that is flagged NSFW, it won’t filter the NSFW communities themselves.

This reminds me that there was talk about not having a blanket wide tag like NSFW, and splitting it into porn, gore, etc.

          Wonder where that went.

If you still want to see NSFW and just block porn communities, the best way is to go to your account blocking settings and block some lemmy domains.

This takes care of most of the porn in here without fully removing all NSFW communities and posts.

This sounds like it’s gonna be the best approach without outright blocking all NSFW posts. I wish there was something more akin to reddit /r/popular for the fediverse, though.
