I figured she did this so her allies could see it was her. Mouths and noses are harder to identify than Toph’s blind eyes.

Hmm. I get what you’re saying, but our eyes are a massive weak spot. Not just in support of seeing, but those two squishy orbs are all that protects the eye socket and our brains beyond.
