I assume he would go to another F1 team?

I remember in his book he mentioned wanting to compete in the America’s Cup, but I’ve also seen rumors recently that he is strongly opposed to being put on the Red Bull hyper car project and wants to stay in F1.

The best bet is Ferrari. Newey has said he always wanted to design for them, plus wanted to design a car for Hamilton

I’m no Ferrari fan, but Gotta admit two Englishmen as a swansong to their long and successful careers reviving the most storied but perpetual underdog Italian team to domance in a new fresh set of regulations is a great story and I’m rooting for it.

Don’t discount LeClerc. His F2 career was epic.

I think you’re right, but I like to dream of a Verstappen/Norris/Newey dream team at McLaren.

About a month ago I predicted that Bottas would go to Merc, Sainz and Hulkenberg would go to Audi, Zhou would go to Haas, and Newey would go to Ferrari. I’m starting to feel pretty good about that.

The McLaren line up is pretty good. Shouldn’t change.

Max makes over 40 million a year. He’s going to have to find a team he is willing to drive for that will pay that money. Not Ferrari, they’re set. Same with McLaren, Aston Martin just got a new owner group. I think the only one left 8s Merc.

Cmon, let’s be real. No team is “set” when it comes to Verstappen, only perhaps Ferrari because they’re getting Hamilton. I guarantee if Verstappen wanted to go to McLaren, McLaren would make room for him. If he wanted to go to AM then AM would make room for him. If you’re serious about winning you do not turn down a driver of Max’s caliber.

Consider that, first of all, McLaren has two very good young drivers that will notch their first win soon if car development gets there.

Secondly, the Arab countries that own McLaren have to come up with some heavy change for Max with the hope the car will get there. He’d have to have a multiple year contract with several outs.

Lastly, there’s max himself. He’d have to want to move back from the pointy end of the field and hope the car gets there while enjoying the money.

They do, but Norris is not Verstappen. Norris doesn’t even come close to Verstappen.

That’s just the price you pay when you want the best driver on grid. It’s not like RBR is paying Max 40 mil a year to look pretty. They’re paying 40 mil a year because a) there’s no driver from his generation who could match him and b) you don’t want him going to your competitors because he’s that good.

Lastly, there’s max himself. He’d have to want to move back from the pointy end of the field and hope the car gets there while enjoying the money.

I thought that’s the assumption we’re going with. Realistically it’s not a question of what team would have Max, it’s a question of what team Max wants to go to. My entire argument is that no team would outright say “No” to Max, it’s Max who will say “No” to teams. Max decides where he wants to go and the teams will do whatever is in their power to fulfill Max’s wishes. The only exception I would see is Ferrari, but even there I’m certain Ferrari would at least sit down with Max to see if he would fit in with Hamilton.

There are people are passionate about their favorite driver. Some people are passionate about their favorite team. I’m neither, just liking the competition. Did a bit of racing in my time, and I truly believe that all things being equal anyone can be beat in F1. It’s all about the package of car and driver and team. Max is very good, but hes no racing God. There is no such thing.

He’s going to have gardening leave, where he could consult with an existing America’s Cup team?

I’m guessing he’s aiming for an f1 start in early 2025 for the 26 car, being under the new regulations.

Will this lead to Marko and ultimately Verstappen leaving Red Bull? 👀

I think the FIA would allow three cars per team for that to happen. Only way it could be more spicy is if Fernando replaced Charles

If this does happen, it will be interesting how the design and aero team at red bull copes. If they remain just as competitive, I will be ridiculously impressed. At that point people will have to start respecting the others in RB as well

Yeah, the big test is the new 2026 regs when you need a whole concept coming together. Until then RBR may lose a little bit of headroom, but still remain the leaders of the field.

Now, in 2026 on the other hand…

Interesting, but there are many brilliant minds at Red Bull designing the chassis of their cars.

The media will obviously make a huge deal out of it and should Red Bull fall behind in 2026 they’ll no doubt make Newey leaving responsible for this, whether it’s the true reason or not.
