I mean, in a certain other furniture store, they put up items for viewing and then nearby there’s boxes of the item, which is what you’re supposed to take…

Looks like a similar case here. Most dishware is sold in sets, so it’s just floor models to show the options.

Wow I wonder how many people misread the sign and accidently shoplift

You want it? It’s yours my friend, as long as you have enough rubies.

A sign that appears to explain how shopping works

Shopping involves payment and here they clearly say I can just take it, it’s mine. I need to go to the checkout so they can track what they give away. If it’s too heavy, someone from the store will help me carry it.

I would at least consider going to a cashier and saying “I love this, it is mine.” Maybe making that joke to anyone I’m with.

Realistically though, I would not follow through and not do anything.

As a person who has worked retail, thank you for your restraint. Even if it’s born of shyness. I will be delighted to ring you up with a smile and the bare minimum of talk.

“Oh sorry, if it’s not in the system I have to take them all back into the Back Room. They should get priced and be back on the shelf by tomorrow or the next day.”

Algorithms work in real life, too.

    This is just standard enshitification.

When you work any sort of sales job, they will teach you a key point is “asking for the sale”–this is just a sign doing that job.

“Carls Jr finds you to be a terrible mother!”

I loved your mom, yet she was not mine. I wanted to take that hot item and check her out. I even asked an associate for assistance, yet she was still not mine. C’est la vie.

So I headed to the home improvement section and found contentment with a metallurgically deficient tool.

Instructions unclear, have started to overthrow the government.

Is that Moss in Toronto? Or no, not Moss, the place next to it.

Kinda funny, posting that instruction makes you think of the alternative (just stuffing it in your purse or whatever) as much out of annoyance as anything… seems counterproductive

Doubtful, if it was, the sign would go:

Take Any Item To Checkout Or Ask An Associate For Assistance, Eh?
