“When did RATM become so woke???”

If you go back to 2012, Vice Presidential pick Paul Ryan listed RATM as his favorite band. At least the MAGA people are raging against something and they think it’s the machine, but Paul Ryan was a technocratic dweeb who probably would’ve gotten shoved in a locker in high school if his dad wasn’t rich. Paul Ryan was supposed to be smart, too, but i guess whether you’re smart or not doesn’t matter if you live in a fantasy world. You’re doing to make a fool of yourself either way.

RATM, and many other bands sing with terrible diction. I wouldn’t blame anyone for not understanding the message if they’ve never read the lyrics.

What? I have hearing difficulties and have never had issues understanding the lyrics in RATM songs. I feel like they enunciate very clearly.

Bruh English is not even my first language and I started really understanding RATM’s lyrics near the end of highschool, without having to ever read them because I was too lazy cool for that. I do have pretty good English comprehension skills but I’m sure the average native speaker does better than me

It is irrational how much the misquoting angers me, but in my defense my brain keeps trying to sing the line in tune and it’s the lyrics quote equivalent of one of those frustrating videos where someone cuts a cake wrong.

Some of those that work forces

Are the same that burn crosses

They’re saying that some of the people in powerful positions are racists who burn crosses. Burning crosses is a KKK harassment activity where they erect and burn a cross on the lawn of a black person’s home while wearing masks to hide their true identity. Essentially they’re alluding to systemic racism.

(It is a Rage Against the Machine lyric from ‘Killing in the Name’)

I’ve had their discography on repeat for a couple weeks now, very much recommend

I can’t find a source for this at the moment, but I read somewhere that the original line was “Some of those that hold office/are the same that burn crosses.” It rhymes a lot better.

There’s only one type of protest that doesn’t meet the full brunt of the governments monopoly on force -

    White supremacists.

Cops shouldn’t be shutting down non-violent KKK rallies and they shouldn’t be shutting down “other” rallies either. It’s everyone’s right.

Yeah its all about free expression. Growing up i never really thought anyboby was racist where i lived. Then a few years ago there was a KKK rally which was 4 people. And the cops still had to defend them from people wanting to rightfully beat there ass.

I agree everbody should have the right to expressive there oppions. Even if in my oppion they are dubious and stupid. But at the end of the day, it should never be about what one person or group wants.

Why did the cops have to defend them. Free speech applies to government censorship, not pissed off neighbours

Or its because they have the right to assemble. Not saying cops are great or anything, but its absolutely a good thing they aren’t shutting down events based on their opinion of the people who run the events.

Side eyes BLM protests, Free Palestine demonstrations and generally most left wing events that are definitely never unjustly broken up by police.

Those protests need to be heavily armed. It sounds radical, but that’s the proven method to avoid violently getting busted up.

During the civil rights movement, peaceful protests were violently broken, but armed protests were politely watched from across the street. Because cops have zero qualms about violently busting up an unarmed crowd, but get really fucking sweaty when the protestors can shoot back. It’s why the Black Panthers got started; People noticed the trend, and a group formed to arm protestors and stop them from getting busted.

It was so effective that it led to Reagan and the NRA passing the most restrictive gun control law the country had ever seen. The Mulford Act was quickly drafted and passed by republicans, to criminalize armed protests. Because lawmakers saw the armed protestors on their front porch, and saw the cops entirely unwilling to stop it.

Ironically, the reason liberal protests get busted is because they’re peaceful. White power rallies are always heavily armed, but liberals have a moral aversion to firearms so they have left themselves open to abuse.

For some reason libs decided to give up firearms in hopes that the cops with guns would protect them… from cops with guns…

I would imagine that KKK rallies aren’t publicly advertised. Furthermore, I’d imagine if you were in the KKK (or close to members), you’d know about the meetings.

I saw a Nazi protest last year.

It was 3 young fat guys in the center of a traffical crossing with signs. I’m surprised they didn’t get beat up or worse.

The surprise of it caught me off guard so I just drove by thinking “WTF”, but I might stop and beat them up or worse if they do it again.
