    The oldest recorded specimen was 179 years old, but individuals usually live up to 140 years.

    I didn’t expect them to have such long lifespans

      Bivalves can get very, very old. The shells hold growth information like tree rings so age data can get pretty accurate.

      The oldest noncolonial animal is believed to be the arctic quahog, which has been confirmed to live 507 years! Older ones are almost surely out there now!

    Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, has a geoduck as its mascot named Speedy.

    Their school motto is “omnia extares” (“let it all hang out”).

          Yep. Theres a good number of these things in the PNW, and they are pronounced as you say, Gooey Duck.

          Its always hilarious listening to anyone not from the PNW attempting to pronounce the myriad of towns and lakes and such with names from original inhabitants.

          Still baffles me that anyone can pronounce Yakima wrong. But then I heard some Californian say Ya kee muh. shakes head
