Except for the part where you’re no longer wearing pants, that’s not the worst idea I’ve ever seen. For like an emergency situation.

If I had string, I’d rather find a stick to make a bindle or yoke. You’ll never get a balanced distribution if weight with a backpack like that.

I have walked over a 100 km spread over four days with a backpack like that, and did that multiple times, for a survival kind of thing.

It’s surprisingly comfortable, and the weight can be distributed quite well if you pack it well. Of course it’s not close to a real backpack, and you shouldn’t carry more than a few kilos with it, but in an emergency I can absolutely recommend this. Much better than a knapsack on a stick over a single shoulder.

I figured that was 2 4 liter bottles of water in that picture. 8 kilos can be a lot if you can’t distribute it right.

Yeah, I don’t know what’s with the bottles. Though it would be distributed quite well, if you kept both bottles equally filled I guess. But 8 kg wouldn’t be fun to wear like that.

Then again, I don’t think 8kg would be fun to wear with anything but a real backpack.
