The words billionaire and prison in the same sentence make me happy.

Is it tha same feeling when you’ll read:" The billionaire family, was given a early prison leave, because they were behaving nice. How could yo put these poooor souls in prison for two weeks!!!"

Because you will read this in two weeks in some small regional paper.

“Oops! They managed to sneak away on their private jet and are evading arrest. They will happily spend their lives in non-extradition countries and the Swiss government will reimburse the family for the property lost in Switzerland.”

Apparently it’s a suspended sentence and they are not in custody, so no prison time will happen. Just business as usual for the exploiters.

Where did you read that? They bailed to Monaco when the sentence was given over a family member in intensive care. But they have strong financial ties in Switzerland on top of the Swiss nationality.

Oh and they have to pay nearly a million to the victims.

IDK Swiss law but I’d still bet they start losing assets quickly if they don’t report to jail.

Exactly. And I bet there’s plenty of money in mansions, cars, jewelry and bank assets.

"Workers at the Hinduja family’s Lake Geneva home alleged they were paid $8 for an entire 18-hour shift, an amount less than one-tenth required under Swiss law.

The family members faced criminal charges of human trafficking for allegations they illegally brought the household staff in and out of Switzerland after confiscating their passports and prevented them from leaving the Swiss property."

They should be getting far more than 4.5 years for doing borderline slavery and illegally detaining/kidnapping.

I think a good way of calculating their sentence should be in lost Franc-years. That is, calculate all of the lost wages they didn’t pay and force them to serve as many years as that amount would make in minimum wage. If they paid one staff member 1/12 of the minimum wage for one year, then that’s 11 months of gaol. If they paid 10 staff members 1/12 of the minimum wage for one year, that’s 9 years gaol. Take from them (in time) what was stolen from their workers. That’s the only way they’ll understand what they’ve stolen, because they have no value of a dollar, rupee, euro or franc.

In India, they’d have walked scotch-free. Well, have fun rotting in here.

Live in domestic help is extremely common all across India. They probably think they did nothing wrong as it wouldn’t have raised any eyebrows in India.
