Nuclear winter would kill almost all of us out— there would be no escaping it.
I have thoughts like this too, but at the end of the day is there anything that you can do directly about it? I feel like there are more levers we can pull as individuals around so many other issues that do directly affect us. Worrying about global nuclear war is as much a waste of my time as worrying about an asteroid hitting the earth, but I can worry and actually do something about picking up trash in my community, being a positive influence in others lives, little stuff like that.
Yeah…
I really hope this will not become reality. But with this maniac on Druid duty in Russia you’ll never know. Even if he „only“ nukes Ukraine, this is way too close for comfort (I live in Germany and might be impacted somewhat from this).
Luckily the biggest contra part (usa) currently has a quite sound President and military leaders who hopefully won’t overreact.
We were on the brim twice, as far as I know, and the thread is real. Just hope that the people are actually calmer than their propaganda.
“maniac on Druid duty”
What does Druid duty mean? I’ve never heard that expression
While its a worry, if you were to graph the likelihood of this occurring, you’re actually at possibly one of the lower points in human history. The peak would be during the 1960s and the Cuban Missile Crisis where US Nuclear bombers were in the air before being called off by Kennedy.
The next highest peak would have likely been in the early 80s with Reagan and the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI aka “Star Wars”) which threatened to unbalance the sides.
Early 90s would be next, but lower still. Right up until the fall of the Soviet Union there could have been a last grasp.
But now its relatively unlikely in all out nuclear war resulting in Nuclear Winter. Russia may fire a tactical nuke in or near Ukraine, but even that would likely be met with a conventional response from NATO.
So the trend over decades is down not up that we’ll have to face Nuclear Winter.
I… am not sure I believe you. Putin basically made a statement that he would support full-scale nuclear war and that more or less “God would sort it out”.
It is really less likely now, tensions used to be much much higher. In the 80s we had nuclear bomb drills.
Hmm…
Wait do you have a source for that?
Uh… I’d have to look it up again.
You can always off yourself if you don’t want to deal with the fallout.
Uhhhhh… I don’t know how to feel about this reply. I don’t want to touch it with a thirty-nine-and-a-half-foot pole.
It’s a serious consideration. Think of a disabled oerson with a chronic terminal disease that can only be mitigated with contibuing medical treatment, like semi-annual chemotherapy. If the entire system collapses, they’re doomed to die slowly and painfully. Why should they not consider ending their own suffering?
I thought 9/11 was going to be the start of something and it never happened. I dont think i would be upset it you were right, kinda just happy this broken world gets a reset
