Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s open acknowledgement that he and his wife used fertility treatments to conceive their two children and his candid discussions about that generated one of the most moving moments during a rally in Glendale, Arizona, when people chanted the name of his firstborn daughter, Hope.

The positive reaction to the candidate’s discussion of the topic confirms the thumbs-up that Vice President Kamala Harris got for choosing her running mate from every faction of the Democratic Party — from moderates such as Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va.; progressives such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.; and even erstwhile conservative Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin, I-W.Va., who left the party this year.

But Tim and Gwen Walz also deserve positive attention for the way they’ve discussed their son, Gus, who came into the national spotlight thanks to a piece in People magazine, about his nonverbal learning disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. That makes him double-neurodiverse.

“Double-neurodiverse”? Look I’m all for more acceptance and understanding of me and my ND homies, but I’m pretty sure you only get the buff effect once no matter how many conditions with that flag you have; it doesn’t stack.

And many are on a spectrum. Its more complex than just stacking or independent of each other. Some may be linked traits that we dont understand yet.

Yeah, right? I have a diagnoses both mental and physical that qualify me as “disabled,” but I haven’t seen a box I get to tick anywhere yet that says “super disabled”

I actually think it depends on order and priority 🤓

Jokes aside, I think it’s a fine term given the large differences between the two forms of ND he has.

In my experience, people with multiple disabilities (MS + UC for instance) call themselves “twice blessed.”

      It’s humorous, if that’s unclear.

It’s another article that shows Walz as a good guy who isn’t here to play power games and politics - honestly, he would be catnip to rural voters if Fox News didn’t exist.

Seeing what shit’s like in the rural south, I’m not so sure that good guys that don’t want to play power games is what actually sells-politically–in rural areas.

Yeah, it’s what they claim they want… and then they elect a daddy’s money billionaire playboy reality TV host asshole who’s been married multiple times to immigrants. Words don’t mean shit.

However, I’m unsure how much of this is due to the effect of Fox and how much is genuine. Can they think for themselves or are they just doing what they’re told?

It’s great Walz is exceeding standards, it sucks that they’re this low.

And I’m pretty sure the plural for Walz isn’t “Walzes”

No, I would say that is correct.

What if the Walzes’ favorite dances are waltzes?

Tim is actually a ballroom dance enthusiast, and designed his own training apparatus to help people learn to dance without a partner and without taking up any floorspace. They sell them as Walz’ Waltzes Wallses.

Did you really just say “if walls could talk” in a thread about a walz with a nonverbal learning disorder?

              ~Just a joke if that isn’t clear~

I was going for the “wall says” / Walzes, and didn’t realize till much later that the “if walls could talk” was even a thing.

this whole election is above my weight class.

i wish i could just vote today and then ignore all of this until the election is over as i am so beneath the people that i want to vote for it makes me feel badly.
