It’s been a few years since I last shaved my beard. If I don’t get irritated skin after shaving should I still use an aftershave? If so, what do you recommend?

Personally I don’t recommend after shave even if you get razer burn. I use shave balm, which helps heal the skin and protect against ingrown hairs after shaving, and rehydrates it. Nivea makes a good one

Can confirm. Been using them for a few years and I have no complaints, only praise for it. I’ve specifically used the Nivea ones.

Looks a bit different on my side of the pond but I believe that’s the same thing, yes

I use a Nivea version of this. I’ve been very happy. Really you just want an antiseptic and lotion.

Nope, go for a decent moisturizing lotion designed for facial use.

And one with salicylic acid will help with ingrowns

I just use a good quality moisturiser, but I do get a little irritation.

As someone who shaves regularly, my skin finally cleared when I began using alcohol and fragrance free aftershave lotion.

Not really, but sort of? So it is wise to use a mild antiseptic after you shave, even if you don’t get irritated skin. Realistically if you’re wallet isn’t packed it can be one of the first things to go, easy.

Eh biggest thing is the scent, which can be replaced by cologne/EDT, and the antiseptic properties, sterilizing any cuts or gashes. Even for the antiseptic stuff, alum should be enough.
