Corporations such as ExxonMobil and Blackstone also big funders of climate crisis, new trade union report finds

Some of the world’s largest companies have been accused of undermining democracy across the world by financially backing far-right political movements, funding and exacerbating the climate crisis, and violating trade union rights and human rights in a report published on Monday by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).

Amazon, Tesla, Meta, ExxonMobil, Blackstone, Vanguard and Glencore are the corporations included in the report. The companies’ lobbying arms are attempting to shape global policy at the United Nations Summit of the Future in New York City on 22 and 23 September.

No fucking shit. Large corporations only care about one thing profit. If democracy, the climate, labor rights, or anything else gets in the way of profits; then fuck those concepts. Profit must rule over everything.

The solution is to force them to care through blackmailing and arrests without any due process.

I’m still waiting for people to rise up. I don’t believe we will ever get moneyless communism in my lifetime but we can and we HAVE to do better than this.

Eh, I’d argue that they care about things other than profit (e.g. power). Look at Leon Musk for example…that guy makes decisions all of the time that aren’t for the benefit of his company’s profitability.

I wouldn’t rationalize too much the decisions taken by a huge narcissistic like that guy, Melon Usk…

      Can’t hang a company. A CEO, though…

Having said that, everyone should behave, not at all calling out for violence, but people should start pressing their governments to directly hold CEOs responsible, criminally where needed

Fuck that, get violent. Revolutions are never bloodless.

Uh huh, so are you okay with YOUR blood flowing, or those that are near to you?

Because the types like you somehow always are okay with the blood of strangers flowing bit as soon as it’s their own ass on the line, it’s all excuses

I’m not really sure how to prove this in a Lemmy comment without doxing myself, so suffice it to say that yes, I would gladly lay down my life to defend my beliefs.

              Okay

Would you gladly lay down the lives of your loved ones? Your parents, your children, your friends?

Because that’s usually what happens in revolutions. Once the violence starts, everybody loses. The one that wins is just the one that lost the least

What an asinine question. If the time for a revolution has truly arrived, my loved ones are already in danger. Their lives and way of life already at risk. It’s funny how close we are to that point now, way closer than when this comment chain started. People are celebrating Luigi and you’re still here trying to say blood shouldn’t be spilled.

This omission makes me wonder if they mean Tesla specifically or just using it as an euphemism for everything its overlord touches.

The first Tesla car came out in 2008. Elon was in charge at that point. He was its largest shareholder as of 2004, and it was founded as of 2003. Pretty sure it wasn’t eroding anything in those first 4 carless years.

Your comment stated, “They were eroding democracy…”

If I misread your implication, apologies, but the obvious question follows: If not Tesla, who is “they” in that context?

The report cites Meta, the largest social media company in the world, for its vast role in permitting and enabling far-right propaganda and movements to use its platforms to grow members and garner support in the US and abroad.

yeah allowing free flow of information is bad for democracy…

in what kind of bizarro world do we live nowadays anyway
