Here’s hoping you have an incapacitating breakdown soon

You’ve got this! Fyi, there are rumors of layoffs, despite all your added hours recently, by the way.

I’m in the third year of my incapacitating breakdown. It’s not as nice as I imagined it to be.

As a small business owner (with no employees)! Help! I have the flu and need a day off but can’t stop or the business dies! Need an employee so I can take holidays or sick days, but hiring someone would require even more effort!

At least when I shit on company time, I feel like I’m sticking it to myself.

That’s a pretty good gig. You get to benefit from shitting on company time while knowing exactly how it impacts the company without any ability to improve it

Small business owner with 5 part time employees.

Wait until you do payroll and think to yourself “do i really need a day off”?

My boss is currently handling my workload as well as his own while I, his only employee, am doing my last level of apprenticeship classroom training. He’s done this for me every time I’ve gone away to school or for vacation for the past 3 years.

Yesterday I got a call from one of our top customers so I relayed the call to my boss.

He answers the phone. I say the thing is spewing oil. He lets out a huge sigh and goes “OOOOHHH man I can’t wait for you to come back. I’ll get it, thanks for taking the call, bye”

I’m 7 weeks down with 3 to go til I’m back to work and the man is beat.

Panel 2 is true for me, but that just means I take any available time off if someone wants extra hours, and used my sick time already by May.

Yeah I found myself really jealous of folks that were laidoff. One guy was like, I’m not sure what I’m going to do for the next year but it includes planting some trees. I still think that sounds just awesome

What world do you live in where a layoff means you get a year to plant trees?

In the US we’d die by like week 3 of not having a job, and lose our homes and be criminally homeless by 6 weeks. In that order.

Haha. It’s a decent corporate job. Dude’s surely been saving up. He seems way more responsible than me, and I’ve definitely at least got like a 3 month emergency fund, but I do live with my mom now which helps. No idea what his situation is but I assumed he probably went to live w/ his parents or something

          I have a

          Hmmm.

It’s a “let’s not find out how long it lasts me” fund

Honestly, having a breakdown can be a positive thing. It’s awful in the moment, but any catalyst for positive change is pretty good.

So yeah, I had a fucking breakdown this year including panic attacks and the feeling I’m fucking choking out of nowhere. Turns out I have anxiety disorder and depression. I’m nowhere near healed, but therapy helps a lot.

Don’t be like me. Actively think about your (mental) health and get help if you need it.
