“Space is the infinite extension of the three-dimensional region in which all matter exists.”
McCoy: “No one asked you, you six-foot-tall leprechaun!”
McCoy hating everything about space travel in TMP made no sense. He was not like that at all in TOS. Sure, he was cranky and he didn’t get along with Spock, but he was regularly very much into the mission. He also had no issue with transporters.
It’s one of the things about TMP that really bugged me.
He was angry because he thought he had retired.
(The fact that Starfleet can force someone back into service is a little bit creepy.)
Yeah, but where did the transporter hate come from?
And he continued bitching about the job after he was clearly free to retire from it again.
Him being back on the ground and realizing how harrowing day to day space travel actually was?
I think after a month of being planetside he became extremely risk adverse. He thought it was all over.
His phobias went away in subsequent movies, so I guess he just got used to it all over again. Asking someone the age to upend their life twice in as many years has to be challenging.
'Cause McCoy is ride or die with Kirk. He may not like it, but damned if he’s gonna let his buddy fuck up the timeline on his own.
I guess. I just wish they toned down the crankiness because he was genuinely interested in science, medicine and exploration in TOS and it’s like he just stopped giving a shit.
