I used to work at a major outdoors retailer. The music on blast wasn’t too bad most of the year because they actually had like a 12-hour playlist, so nothing repeated.

Then Christmas arrived. There were still no repeat tracks throughout the day. But the thing about Christmas songs is that there’s only like 10 songs that have each been recorded by like 15 different artists, so while the individual recordings didn’t repeat, we’d still hear the same song 8 times a shift.

Seriously, nothing wrong with the old carols, but people need to write new ones or something. blef.

And people did. There’s tons of new Christmas songs written every year. But they a) don’t catch on, b) are not in the public domain obviously.

Americans are fucking amateurs. In Japan (they also have stores in Hawaii and Guam) there is a retailer called Don Quixote (it’s like upscale Japanese Target). They play one song and ONE SONG ONLY on repeat during all business hours. 365 days a year.

I see more reposted memes about the song than times I hear it.

If people shut the fuck about it, Nobody would care.

Which is quite different than a social medium, where you die and they still try talking to you.
