The most demanded Christmas-exclusive recipe that my late mother in law kept from everyone (but meeee!)

In memory of an amazing mother in law. Love her to pieces.

Chef’s notes: grease a dish with butter before pouring the fudge. And !!DO NOT!! put it in the refrigerator to cool. Leave it on the counter to cool. Fridge = brick of sad chocolate. Also also, MIL’s preferred brand of peanut butter is JIF. I couldn’t care less what brand I use, but this mattered to her. ❤️

Edit: Canned milk = evaporated milk.

“Mars” creme = marshmallow creme aka Fluff.

    “Canned milk” being evaporated, correct?

    Legible version:

    Fudge

    • 2-1/4 cups sugar
    • 2/3 cups canned milk
    • 3/4 st. margarine
    • 5 oz mars. creme
    • pinch salt

Boil 5 min. Add 6 oz pkg choc chips. Melt then add 1 tablespoon peanut butter and 1 tsp vanilla.

Lol, I’m thinking she was about to write out her bestie’s famous coconut pie recipe but realized she didn’t have enough room. I’m not sure where she eventually did write it down though. I have not come across it.

Yeah, I thought it was funny so I included it.

Figured the situation was like you say.

What’s above? I read something like “all in black walnuts”

          Another Christmastime tradition, cheese log

To be honest, I think what she actually brought to family gatherings has evolved from this written recipe. She very much was a “little of this, a smidgen of that, taste it and adjust” type of cook. She probably used garlic powder vs mincing up a clove, and I am pretty sure she used chopped pecans vs walnuts (being that I’m mildly allergic to walnuts, and I never had a reaction to her cheese log). She would also save the leftovers for me specifically, and that’s pretty much all I ate on Boxing Day. 😁

I’m not the best with cursive, what is the 4th ingredient? I’m reading 5oz mars creme

I think it must be. My first thought was Mars brand chocolate since there’s no mention of chocolate in the ingredients, but then I see it tossed in in the instructions.

Looks like it’s an abbreviation, possibly for marshmallow creme.

I made a fudge recipe that called for marshmallow creme before and it came out great. Much easier than a more traditional fudge recipe and just as delicious.
