Summary

Trump claimed Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to “stop Migration through Mexico” after a call, declaring it a win for U.S. border security.

Sheinbaum quickly refuted this, stating Mexico opposes closing borders and prioritizes collaboration.

The exchange drew mockery online, with critics comparing it to Trump’s past unfulfilled claim that Mexico would pay for a border wall.

Social media users ridiculed Trump for exaggerating the conversation’s outcome and manufacturing a crisis with Mexico over proposed tariffs he’s vowed to implement upon taking office.

Fuck the formalities—all world leaders need to shit on him on the record. He needs to be embarrassed hard. Maybe he’ll get so pissed off that he shits himself and gives up the ghost.

They need to do it so hard that Magats realize he’s the laughing stock of the world. Imagine a world in which American news couldn’t avoid running stories about how world leaders literally shun Trump. Would we abandon the entire world order? or would the American Oligarchs demand the 25th Amendment be used?

Oh they may have said they believed him. But they knew. And being a one time incident it’s easy to dismiss.

Honestly I think it would play into the “Trump is fighting the elites” narrative far too well, and would probably be celebrated. “America is so great we don’t even need those other countries, how dare they insult our President for life?”

Nah, Americans hate weakness. Just straight up dunking on him whenever they have to talk about America would work.

Damnit, funny it may be but if this flew under the radar Mexico would have a better chance at dodging tariffs.

Mexico isn’t going to be the one to lose a trade war. Thanks to NAFTA they are an integral part of our manufacturing chain and a huge food source. They can be poor, they’ve been poor before. Americans are going to lose it when groceries get even more expensive.

We have more to lose than any other country in terms of his dumbass proposal. The middle and lower class are going to feel it the most. This administration intends to put us through unnecessary hardship.

    stating Mexico opposes closing borders

And yet, the Mexico-Guatemala Border is nearly entirely closed? I don’t support a closed border but that’s pretty hypocritical

To clarify, you need to go to specific check points just like the US-Mexico border. And you need specific documentation, just like the US-Mexico Border

The notion that Trump and his ilk are conflating two ideas in the news - intentionally or moronically - for PR benefits, shouldn’t be surprising so much as just continuing the trend.

So it’s not closed? A closed border would not allow any (legal) crossings.
