Luke Wilson said he’s ‘always pitching’ sequel ideas for 2006’s Idiocracy to director Mike Judge.
not needed anymore, reality has become a parody of itself.
He’s broke
It will be more depressing to watch it. Since in that world no one is hateful just stupid. We got the timeline with the hateful and stupid people.
I wonder how many of the ideas he has pitched have become reality in the last few months/years.
It would probably make better viewing to write a mockumentary about Wilson pitching ideas that then happen IRL the same day. Like Curb Your Enthusiasm but about satire writers. Is satire of satire already a genre? It should be!
Thats frickin hilarious. Would watch!
CHICAGO – In a tearful press conference held outside their headquarters, the editors of The Onion announced today that they will be ceasing operations indefinitely, citing the increasing impossibility of maintaining their satirical edge in a world that seems determined to outpace their imaginations.
“We tried our best,” said Editor-in-Chief Chad Nackers, clutching a coffee mug emblazoned with the phrase “Satire Is Dead.” “But at this point, every time we think of a headline like, ‘Congress Votes To Replace Minimum Wage With ‘Employee Of The Month’ Stickers,’ it’s on CNN three hours later.”
The Onion, a stalwart of satirical journalism for over three decades, has long prided itself on crafting absurd yet poignant headlines that parody the state of the world. However, in recent years, their attempts at humor have been thwarted by reality’s relentless pursuit of self-parody.
“We were working on a piece titled, ‘Local Man Launches GoFundMe For Pet Goldfish’s Gender Reveal Party,’ and before we could even finish the article, there it was on TikTok,” lamented Senior Writer Mariah Benson. “How do you satirize something like that? It’s like we’re in some cosmic arms race, and reality has nukes.”
Note: this is satire, the onion is not shutting down
Does it need to be at movie scale?
A 30min workplace sitcom about running the whitehouse in that world might work.
I wish he was in more stuff. stargirl ended up being pretty decent and I firmly believe in large part to casting him as the dad.
Unpopular opinion incoming but Idiocracy isn’t that good and incels only like it because it soft-validates their support for eugenics
You’re right, that is an unpopular opinion.
Tell me you missed the point of the movie without saying you missed the point of the movie.
Never said that’s what the movie is about, only that’s what people take away from it
Unpopular opinion incoming but Idiocracy isn’t that good and incels only like it because it soft-validates their support for eugenics.
The phrasing you used is that it does validate their support, not that other people think that. That’s why you aren’t getting an award.
I love it for just being a stupid movie but it’s certainly not any kind of brilliant satire. It misses the mark quite a bit in a lot of ways.
