It’s going to be fun when the trump administration kneecaps the FDA and deregulates the food industry. We will get far fewer warnings like this, and dear leader will tout that as evidence that the food supply is much safer.

Already researching how to test locally for heavy metals like lead, other things like cyanide, PFAs, anything else I can think of. Won’t be able to trust our food anymore.

            Gotcha.

But, in the off chance that some dickhead defunds the FDA, what do we do?

I already try to grow what I can…but I’m not some trad wife who makes lots of money on instagram showing off how everything I ingest comes from my own land. Don’t have that kind of money or time on my hands. Aside from cooking things to recommended temps and washing/refrigerating things as needed, is there more that can be done on a household level?

One day it’s Listeria, the next it’s Salmonella, and the next it’s Bird Flu.

At this rate, whether you’re a carnivore, omnivore, or herbivore, everyone is at risk of eating basically anything. But it’s okay, as the grocery prices rise, we gradually get used to eating less, so eventually we won’t need to eat anything anyways…

No worries, in less than a month we won’t need to worry about reading about so many FDA recalls anymore…

And stupid people in this country will see that as a win, as their neighbors die from preventable illness

Prions are nightmare fuel… There aren’t many circumstances where I’d consider suicide, but being diagnosed with a prion might be one of them… Just have to make sure to keep the brain in tact so they could study that shit.

A lot of this contamination is due to the runoff from farms finding their way into fields. Lowering demand for meat would help considerably. I’m already avoiding meat at least once a week to do my part.

Glad to see they’re trying to raise the red flag before they’re kneecapped. Wish the rest of the government was doing similar.

We have an FDA with less and less power and a culture of ruthless capitalism that thinks the baseline set by the government is still too high and needs to spend all effort cutting as many corners as possible to make the largest profit.

It was about a decade ago that Germany had a big problem. They blamed Spain. A bunch of Spanish produce sat in giant piles and rotted. The actual culprit was German spinach

They’ve literally been dumping diseased animal’s shit on veggies for such a long time. Every now and then we get E-coli breakouts in veggies that should be safe from shit.

Veganic agriculture is a thing, but very hard to find.

Listeria monocytogenes is commonly found in soil, stream water, sewage, plants, and food.[5] Listeria in soil can contaminate vegetables, and animals can be carriers. It has been found in uncooked meats, uncooked vegetables, fruits including cantaloupe[30] and apples,[31] pasteurized or unpasteurized milk and milk products, and processed foods. Pasteurization and sufficient cooking kill Listeria
