Summary

Donald Trump falsely linked the New Orleans truck attack, carried out by U.S. Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar, to immigration, despite authorities confirming no connection to the border.

Trump’s claims followed a retracted Fox News report and contradicted FBI findings that Jabbar, a U.S. citizen, acted alone in what is being investigated as terrorism.

Trump doubled down on Truth Social, blaming Biden’s border policies and proclaiming, “Trump was right about everything.”

An ISIS flag was found on the vehicle, with the FBI probing potential ties to terrorist organizations.

As of right now, Elon Musk is president either way. He might get Vance even cheaper than Trump. And it’s entirely possible that Musk is only following orders from Putin, who probably wants to keep Trump on a shorter leash this time around. Musk and Putin have been in close contact for years already, after all: https://apnews.com/article/musk-putin-x-trump-tesla-election-russia-9cecb7cb0f23ccce49336771280ae179 And if Putin knows one thing, then it’s how to deal with oligarchs.

My hot take: When Trump kicks the bucket, the MAGA movement dies with him. JD Vance sure as hell isn’t going to inspire the faithful the way Trump did. With a lack of political capital, and because he’s so desperate to be liked, Vance would probably have to act more like a “traditional” Republican, if that even means anything anymore.

Will it matter at that point? President Vance almost certainly means full steam ahead for ALL of Project 2025.

If Trump gets those tariffs the American people will turn on conservatives when it spikes prices. Inflation killed Harris, it can do the same to Trump. If anything, the fastest way for MAGA to die is for them to fight over power and squander four years with infighting and suicidal policy calls. Factor in razor-thin house/senate margins and even a competent admin would have trouble, let alone Elon and Trump.

My hope is that Vance suffers the same fate Hillary did when he tries to hold Trump’s coalition together.

Agreed though that won’t be the first step. They’ll go after “leftists” and immigrants first which will tank the economy further and result in more brain drain.

Don’t underestimate capital’s ability, through owned press and social media, to create the next Trump. The incentive is there: although the man himself, with his incredible ego, would likely reject any form of successor, the political phenomenon he has spearheaded, with its seemingly boundless capacity to divide and rule and weaken checks and balances, benefits billionaires too much for them to just let it fade into history. In any case, the social soil that has been such fertile ground for Trump will not just disappear when he dies, and the party has been irreversibly remade, with Republicans either falling in line or getting pushed aside. I wish the nightmare he represents would die with him, but I doubt it will.

I understand your comment as implying that Trump will make Musk eligible for the US presidency. If that is what you mean, I agree with you there.

Most of the ultrawealthy seem to prefer having someone else in the political limelight and pulling the strings from the backstage, probably to keep a semblance –however faint– of democratic legitimacy. Musk is being a loud exception, meddling in broad political daylight all over the world, and I would not put it past Trump to enable him as his successor if the two of them stay on good terms and Musk does not become too much of a toxic asset.

If it wasn’t for the Hate Radio and Faux News Cinematic Universe, things like the teabaggers, Palin, and then, later, donvict, would not have been possible. This stuff got incrementally racheted up year over year, decade after decade getting us to where we are…

Here’s how Fox News propaganda works: They will repeat the man’s name, non-stop. There will be no mention of him being a U.S. Army veteran, certainly no mention of his citizen status. They’ll likely throw a few offhand questions about how he got to America, even if he was born here.

I’ve watched Fox more than I ever wanted to. They rarely tell an outright lie, though they don’t question guests who do so. The brainwashing techniques are in your face, no subtlety. Hell, after a week I hated Obama, never wanted to hear the name gain.
