❤️ the Boston Alamo. Public transportation has a station right outside. Decent beer taplist. The popcorn with clarified butter is Yummo! Only thing missing is an IMAX.
I wish I didn’t have to drive 6 hours to my nearest one. I’ve heard they’re the best chain around
they used to be unique but now almost all theaters (at least around me) have a comparable (or better) experience with reserved seats, roomy reclining seats, better food, etc. I think the only thing Alamo really has going for it now is its strict policy of no kids and no talking.
Haha, “the only thing it has going for it” is 100% why it’s important and we need to keep it around. I’m a big fan of it not being a crapshoot as to whether or not my expensive movie ticket is going to be a miserable experience due to an awful audience.
(Bonus Alamo protip: get the chocolate chip cookies. Freshly baked and delicious. I write “cookies” on a slip after they take my main order but before the movie starts, then prop it up when I’m finished. Cookies then miraculously appear midway through the movie - half the time I don’t even see those ninjas deliver them.)
I would pay a premium for no kids and no talking tbh. Those two things have ruined the last half dozen times I’ve been to the movies
Ah where I live, Alamo food is still way better than any other in-seat option.
They’re really expensive, but it’s kind of a whole experience. I went last month to see Wicked with the family, and ended up spending like $150 on food and tickets.
Granted there were five of us, we each got a meal, and a couple of us got desserts too.
$150 for a meal and five movie tickets doesn’t seem expensive to me. That’s honestly not bad for a meal alone.
Sounds like a pretty good deal seeing that I spent $80 on me and my partner to see Nosferatu last week with just a popcorn and drink to split between us
They certainly are. I used to be under 20 minutes away from one now am about 2.5 hours and still have driven to that one twice in the last 2 months. May have to again as that’s the only place in my state to see The Brutalist it seems
I’m strongly contemplating making that 6 hour drive and making a week out of it to see The Brutalist
